Isn't it time to put to rest that old stereotype that in order to be smart you have to be competitive and anti-social? We really are doing a disservice to other women to keep perpetrating that myth? Most of our top houses have extremely bright women who try their hardest. That doesn't make them anti-social, awkward or bitc hes.

People don't call them anti social because they're smart. They call them anti social because they aree anti social.

This has bothered me for a long time. People come on this site all the time and imply that there is only one kind of sorority girl -- the kind who is pretty and popular and likes to party. So anyone who doesn't fit that stereotype is somehow odd. You get ridiculed if you are not pretty and popular, but also if you are smart and a leader. There is a special kind of girl who buys into those stereotypes and who says insulting things simply because a woman is being true to who she is. If you are smart you should NEVER have to apologize for it, just like if you are not a beauty queen you shouldn't have to feel bad. We are better than this and it is time to stop saying insulting things about people just because they don't meet some preconceived notion of what a sorority girl should be. Men don't turn against other men that way, why are we??????????

But is it a stereotype if Theta continues to tout for themselves? They are the ones who continue to perpetuate it every single year they put on rush. Those are the sort of girls they continue to target during rush and those are the qualities they continue to highlight when girls rush their house. I rushed this year and they were still doing that song and dance.

I'm not saying there aren't a lot of girls in Theta who break that mold but it's a mold they certainly don't try hard to stray from.

First of all, what does it mean to "tout for themselves"? I've never heard that wording before. Second, why in the world would a successful house try to break a mold that is working so well for them? They have extremely high return rates and one statistic I saw in the last six months indicates that more women drop rush when they list Theta at the top and aren't asked back than any other house. I understand you are not a Theta kind of girl, but why aren't you saying the same thing about GPhi? APhi?TriDelt? It's probably because those houses fit your stereotype of what a sorority should be. Theta and ADPi and Kappa, to a certain extent, are very proud of what they represent and fit other women's expectation of what a sorority should be. So join the real world and acknowledge that there are all types of houses and all types of women who want those houses, whether you do or not. It's hardly a "song and dance" when it is an accurate reflection of who they are. Stop the shaming.

Thetas and ADPi's like to tell themselves (and everyone else) that they're criticized for being anti social because "stereotypically" smart girls are anti social (according to you.) However, that's not the reason behind it at all - you're completely lost if you think that anyone believes someone can't be smart and pretty and social. It just so happens that your houses, as a whole, are not social. You don't have as many socials, you typically aren't around as much and you're not a fraternities favourites. Say that these things don't matter but they ARE what makes a sorority social. It has nothing to do with you being smart. Every house has very smart girls who are pretty and social and have it all going for them. Obviously not all your sisters fit the mold but Theta and ADPi 100% are one of the weakest houses socially. PS: in my eyes and most girls I know, your typical academic, overachiever tends to be gorgeous and social. In high school, it was always the popular girls making top grades with the random geek who would sometimes get a higher grade. ADPi got those geeks, Theta got the regular popular girls and the top popular girls are spread through other chapters.

Way to paint with a broad brush. I can't believe you actually are stupid enough to say that hundreds of women who are ADPis and hundreds of women who are Thetas are all exactly the same. Do you even go to school here? Are you even in a sorority? There is NOT ONE HOUSE ON THIS ENTIRE CAMPUS that has women who are all identical. And it is preposterous to say that. Just go away.

What I said was that not all girls fit the mold but it's the stereotype at the house. Don't tell me if the OP came from her school's version of Alpha Phi (and agreed with the stereotype) that she'd fit in at ADPi. If you want to be considered more social then evolve your recruitment criteria because your current girls aren't cutting it.

Side note, ADPi's are the first to call out APhi on all being stupid so if you're that against stereotyping than you might wanna stop doing it yourselves. PS: Maybe the reason ADPi's are so anti-APhi is because they have something you don't.

You can't possibly know who writes anything on this site. But to imply that ADPi (not my house, by the way, though I am in a very similar house) is jealous of Alpha Phi is just preposterous. That chuckling in the background? That's Greektown laughing at you.

You're probably a Theta and ADPi's wanna be you. The difference between Theta and ADPi (aside from being stronger academically) is that Theta's are generally proud of who they are. You don't see Theta's being insecure, putting houses down and trying to something they aren't. ADPi's are constantly whining that they're well rounded and putting down gphi and aphi... ADPi needs to embrace their rep or change it, end of story.

For this reason exactly Theta is one of the most respected sororities while ADPi is generally laughed at.
