is it true that you get fined if you miss a meeting? and that you have to always look a certain way, take sorority pics if you travel, and buy a certain number of sorority shirts? this might be a stupid question but I reall don't know what's true lol

In my sorority, you get fined after missing 2 chapter meetings or for any formal meetings missed (THOUGH it is easy to get out of going if you have to study, out of town, whatever the reason). You don't have to look like anything, but my sorority encourages people to look good when wearing our letters. But we wouldn't get fined for not 'looking good'. We also don't have to take pics when we travel though we can use the pictures for our blog/social media stuff (but only if you allow them to). We also don't have to buy any shirts if we don't want! Hope this helps :) every sorority it different I will say.

Yeah my chapter seems very similar to yours. We get fined after missing 2 chapters but we can be excused to university excuses, classes, tests, reviews, etc. We don't have any rules on looking a certain way, but we do encourage our members to be on their best behavior when wearing our letters (such as no drinking in our letters, no disrespect to others, etc.). We also don't tell our members to take sorority pictures while traveling, but some choose to. We use our members' pictures on our social media regardless of if they are throwing up their sign or not! We also only have recruitment and philanthropy related apparel that is mandatory once or twice a year because the events are mandatory and part of the philanthropy apparel money goes to our philanthropy, but other than that you can buy however little or much apparel as you like!

I wouldn't say these houses have bad GPAs but yes a lot of houses do have study hours! They usually are just a room rented out to the chapter that you go and sign in at and then you can study however you want, or it's an app on your phone or computer that keeps track of how much you study. you wouldn't have to study any certain way! In college you spend so much time studying it won't be hard to do these so don't worry!

My chapter doesn't fine you unless you miss recruitment/workweek or a ritual event unexcused. If you miss too many chapters you get sent to standards and then you might get fined if it's a recurring issue but most likely they'll just make another event mandatory. All our shirts are optional to purchase with the exception of bid day shirts but those go right on to our bill. We are never told to look a certain way or take certain pics (though we do have our social media monitored for inappropriate photos).

Anything that has alcohol in it, certain captions, and you can't tag your location as a bar if you're under 21. You can get in trouble for tweets if you're saying rude things about the sorority or openly talking about drinking or excessively cussing. If you're 21 you can post pics with alcohol provided they're tasteful and you can tag bars. Facebook, instagram, and Twitter are all monitored.
