sophomore rush
by: SophomoreRush3Hey, everyone. So I'm a sophomore who is going through recruitment next year. I'll be going in with a great GPA and extracurriculars, so I was wondering if theres any tips about sophomore rush you all can give me. Also, is there houses that cut just for sophomore status?

I went through as a freshman, but I know a few girls who went through as sophomores and had amazing experiences.
My best recommendation would be to make a lot of good friends in different houses. I can't speak for other houses (we all do it differently), but my house takes sophomores. However, it is much more difficult to get in as one (but not impossible!!)
Ultimately, you need people who will pull for you.Talk to the girls you know who are in X,Y,Z houses and tell them you're really interested in rushing. If you like their chapter, go hang out with them at the house. Go to a date party or to the dining halls with their friends. The more girls you know who will pull for you, the better rush experience you'll have. And you'll know more about the chapter & whether or not it'd be a good fit for you.
That being said, knowing people isn't everything. Smile, be engaging and yourself. I know it's a hard process (it's very difficult on the other side, too), but just be open and nice. One piece of advice I received prior to going through was to answer every question with a story. It might sound silly, but it helps the conversation flow. As an active, we want you to give us as much info as possible.
EX: "How was move-in day?"
"Good!"
ORR
EX: "How was move-in day?"
"It was great! I wanted to make sure my dorm was really cute & comfortable so I looked on pinterest for dorm room ideas."
"Oh, I love Pinterest!" blah blah blah
I hope that helps & good luck! :)

I rushed as a freshman this year, but there are actually a lot more sophomores in my class than I expected! Don't go into it thinking you will get dropped because of your grade! Chapters do have things they are looking for, but if you talk to a girl and let her know why you didn't rush your first year, the house will have that information and will be more likely to help you out if they think you're a good fit and don't meet the 'grade status' they're looking for! Just have fun and choose a house that you can be yourself or that gets you excited! You don't want to regret your choice in the long run! Never settle for less than your new home!
