PanHell recommends that you not have less than a 3.0 high school GPA to go through rush. Most houses have grades cuts that are higher than that. My house, for example, looks for a high school GPA of at least a 3.4 with several honors and AP classes. And, no, half of the girls going through rush do not get cut, but half drop out, often because they get cut by a house they have their heart set on or because they aren't pleased with the choices they have left. That, in part, can be because they didn't survive the grade cuts of the top houses. If you go through rush with an open mind and consider all possibilities, you probably can make it into a sorority. But if you don't have excellent grades going in, your choices will be limited. If you have below a 3.0 you can expect to not be asked back to Kappa, ADPi, Theta, TriDelt, AXO, PiPhi and XO. But houses like APhi, Sigma, PhiMu, SK and others don't make serious grade cuts.

You can have a 4.0 and get cut from every house. Yet when I went through rush I had a friend who had less than a 3.25 and she joined XO. Sometimes it's who ya know. And at Mizzou, it's about 85% who you know. Very few houses will give you the time of day if someone from "high school" didn't know you or you better be the Golden girl, 4.5 gpa etc..... And for the last 2 years at least 1/3 either dropped or got cut. So maybe your lucky to even make it in any :-]

I'm from out of state and I knew no one, I had a 3.8, and I had a great recruitment.

A 4.5 is possible at most schools that have weighted honors/AP grades. That's when an A is worth 5 points. But since honors/AP classes aren't offered in many areas, it's impossible to get a 5.0. Also, I am from out of state, knew no one and also had a great rush. My final choices were PiPhi, XO and Theta and while I love my house, I could have been happy in any of them. I actually think that NOT knowing anyone in any house worked to my advantage. No one had any preconceived ideas about me.
Whoever said you had to know people in the house couldn't be more out of touch.
