chance at aopi

by:

I loved aopi so much at spring teas and or was a house that made me feel so at home. I'm really worried though because I have below a 3.0. Do I have any chance at aopi?

Haha yes you have a great chance. They are not a hard sorority to get into, considering their return rates are pretty low.

How do you know? Are you there during their parties?

Anyone can tell you that new row sororotities do not have good return rates. That's just common knowledge. Old row sororities drop twice as many girls as new row sororities because they can. New row doesn't have that advantage, because of how dramatically they get dropped by pnms.

Yeah old row drops more girls but they also have to take more ninjas with snap bids. We may have lower "return rates" (according to you), but at least we don't have to take 25 girls that we don't want at the end of the week just so we can pretend that we're better than everyone else.

That's not true..... My sorority has never in its existence given snap bids. The only old row sororities I've heard of doing that is phi mu and KD. And that's probably because they dropped a lot of girls the first day that they shouldn't have. They were wayyyy too selective, and you can't be THAT selective the first day of rush.

Maybe that's why some old row sororities have to sometimes give out snap bids.

AOII and the other new row houses are very competitive. In fact, I'd say that A Phi is the only house you'd have a chance with and then only if you're pretty. All of the houses look hard at grades and have grade minimums they don't want to go under.

Sororities take grade risks every year. Yes, she will have a much more difficult time during rush wnd she'll most likely experience heavy cuts but it's not like she has no hope. Why does it everyone on this website try to tear pnms down?

I wouldn't say thats tearing her down, I think that its making her aware of a reality she needs to be prepared to face. Most of the sororities will not take you if you are under a 3.0 thats just the truth. While some exceptions will be made, that will be extremely rare. With more than 2000 girls going through rush, thats the easiest cut to make in the first few rounds. It has no reflection on you or your personality, its just how this process will work.

During Rush every sorority is given everyone's numbers. We know how many girls are going through pref at which houses and Panhellenic sets the numbers for how many girls have to be dropped. Old row drops nearly 1000 girls the first day. The sororities with the lowest return rates are the Lower ones.

Honestly, you need to prepare yourself for heavy cuts. It's great that you like AOPi, but I would not get my heart set on any house because it will just hurt you in the end. If you have a 3.0, you should be prepared to be cut by my most every house.

The thing is if you can't make a 3.0 in high school the chances of you making a 3.0 or above in college are slim to none. A huge part of being in a sorority is scholarship and grades, and if you can't show that you're going to meet that requirement, we aren't interested. I'm sorry, but that's the cold, hard truth. Grades are literally the only way that sororities are official ranked so making a good house GPA is a huge deal. It takes 4 girls with good gpas to make up for one girl with a bad gpa. Why would we willingly take a girl who we know probably won't do well?

Maybe you should reconsider going through recruitment this semester. Going through with under a 3.0 is just setting yourself up for heartbreak, and I don't wish that on anyone. Think about waiting till next fall when you have a better grasp on how college is going to be--work on getting really good grades and getting involved on campus.

they were my number one after first round and they cut me. and i mean i'd say i'm pretty and i had a 3.5 gpa in high school, i'm still not sure why the dropped me haha. it depends if the girl likes you, but i'd say they're a little picky. just be super outgoing and friendly, that's what their house is all about! good luck

Did you ever think that maybe you just didn't fit in? Actives know a lot better than pnms when it comes to deciding who fits into their sorority or not.

If you look at the greek life site in fall 2014 they were ranked #5 in grades. I feel like that means they take grades pretty seriously...
