academic letter of recommendation

by:

So I saw in this year's Greek Chic that starting this year houses will begin accepting academic recommendation letters from teachers. How much weight will houses put on these? Or is it just some BS way for Panhellenic to make us PNMs feel better even if we have no rec letter from an alumna? I'm thinking of getting an academic rec letter for each of the houses because my teacher would know more about my intelligence and activities than an "info only" rec or a rec from someone who only knows my grandparents/parents. Would it be too much paper or should I send one in anyways?

I'm not sending mine directly to the houses. I'm just uploading it when I register for recruitment!

Don't do that. Sororities won't see it. In order to get noticed, you've GOT to send things in. Don't make the sororities look for you and search through files, send it to them so they can open it and read it.
Honestly, anything is better than no rec at all! Anything you send in to get your name out there, regardless if it's a rec, is better than nothing.

OP, you hit the nail on the head. This is a lame ass way for Panhellenic to feel better about recs.
You MUST have recs for each house, written by an alumna of that sorority. SHE will send the rec to the sorority chapter. YOU do not send anything.
And that rec from someone who knows your grandparents or parents is WAY better than a rec from an alum who doesn't know you. She knows your family and how you were raised, and that counts for a lot.

I think I need to clarify my question. By no means am I asking if I should ask my teachers to send in academic rec letters in lieu of "real" rec letters (of course personal writers > info only, but I'm in an area lacking some of the sororities), rather I am asking if I already have 2 personal rec letters, would that be too much paperwork for sororities to handle? If I have 2 personal recs (or even just 1 info-only) is it worth asking my teachers to write an academic rec? Grades are hugely important to me, so I want to make sure that sororities get to see the academic side of me.

Also I'm pretty sure that the PNM can mail in the academic rec letter from a ( non-alumna) teacher.

I wouldn't worry about the academic rec. Those geared for PNM's with low GPA's where the teacher can "back" up the PNM by saying they were still a hardworking student but the curriculum they were on was very tough hence the low GPA... Or something similar. If you have outstanding grades, don't worry about the academic rec. The personal alumna rec is much more important.
