Actives,
What was your first impression of every sorority the very first day of Ice Water Teas? What turned you off? What surprised you? I think this would be a really cool way to grasp the stereotype/atmosphere/personality of the houses!!

The first two days of rush are so overwhelming that the only differences will be on individual conversations. Having been almost a year, I can't tell you what houses I had good conversations and didn't. Keep a notebook!!! Not only will it help you tremendously during recruitment, but it's fun to look at 9 months later. Try to write down as much as possible so you'll be able to remember.

Were you able to tell the differences between sororities? I'm scared that they will all seem so similar the first few days! Like after iwt round, were you able to grasp the "good" sororities and "bad" sororities? I know all the sororities are great, and I'm keeping an open mind, but I guess I'm just wondering if you were able to see it in such a short amount of time (bc I heard those parties only last like 10 minutes!!)

I don't really know what you mean by "good" or "bad" sororities, but that's pretty rude (and I'm not so sure that's exactly what you meant by the phrase so I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt) so you should probably rephrase that.

If you mean whether or not you liked the house or not,I honestly thought that it's pretty easy to tell which houses you do and do not fit in at. Just because you liked the girl you talked to and thought she was nice doesn't mean that you have to put them down first or even want to go back for the next round. I liked pretty much every house during IWT, but it was clear that there were certain houses I clicked with more.

I highly recommend writing in either notebook, the notes app on your phone, or in your greek chic every time you leave a house or as soon after as you can. It's really easy to forget the names of the actives you talked to or even what you talked about, which makes it hard when you get to ranking. Its normally not too hard to rank your tops, but when it gets down to the bottom, it can get confusing when you don't remember much about each house.
That being said, this is what I wrote in my Greek Chic about each house. And I honestly don't mean any offense to any house (these were just my opinions on the first round and a lot of them ended up changing).

DG: Loved this house more than I thought I would, cute door song
ADPi: Did not like this house, girl I talked to couldn't hold a conversation which made me feel very awkward
AGD: This house was okay, a little boring, talked to a girl from my hometown that I didn't know very well
DDD: this was my first house of the day, was very nervous and so was the active, she was nice, but nothing stood out
KD: did not like this house, the conversation was difficult to keep and all the girl wanted to talk about was shopping with her dad's credit card
Pi Phi: really liked this house, had high expectations for this house coming in and I felt like I could possibly fit in there
Chi O: Nothing stood out to me about this house, the girl I talked to was nice, but could not see myself here

Phi Mu: Liked this house, but thought the layout of this party was very awkward (you keep your glass of water for like .25 seconds); had heard lots of talk about this house but didn't think they were any better than the rest
GPhi: Liked this house a lot more than I thought I would based on what I had heard from others, talked to a girl from my hometown who I really liked
Alpha Phi: Loved this house, the girls I talked to were a lot like me and the conversation was very refreshing
Zeta: They definitely live up to their beauty queen reputation, and I felt uncomfortable because I'm a little more on the "natural" make up side. I liked them but did not feel comfortable there
DZ: Did not like this house, talked to a girl from my hometown that I previously knew and she kind of ruined them for me; Definitely would have liked them a lot more if it wasn't for her
Alpha Chi: Really liked this house, this was another house a lot of people talked about and the lived up to their reputation; puts on a really good recruitment
Kappa: Liked this house, but it was really hard to hear because the room was very echo-y; I felt like I had to scream in the girl's ear for the active to hear me talk
AOPi: Indifferent about this house; the actives were very nice, but kind of boring; one girl asked me the same question twice and didn't realize it, but she seemed nervous
Theta: really liked this house; very laid back and relaxed; better than I thought they would be

I hope after you read the notes the girl above took during recruitment, you'll realize that the truth of the matter is that there are no universally recognized "good" and "bad" houses. You've probably heard people say that all our houses are good at Alabama and it's really true. Some of the houses you see at the bottom of some of the lists on here were ones she like the best, while some of the top houses from greekrank were so-so or bad impressions. In otherwords,THINK FOR YOURSELF. Go into recruitment with an open heart and pick a house you like. No one will look down on you if you don't pick a top house. Some of the happiest girls I know are in lower ranking houses.

And like I said above, my opinions changed drastically from the first round! My second favorite house of the whole week was a house that didn't stand out to me at all during IWT and I ended up really loving them! Just go in with an open mind and be yourself! If you do that, you will succeed (as long as you have gpa, recs, etc).
