can anyone give me some info?
by: questionOK, I just found this site so I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but here goes. My mom was an AChiO and my grandma was a G Phi.. Neither went to Alabama but this is where I'm going. Just from looking AChiO seems like it's harder to get into for a girl with no connections. I haven't gone through recruitment yet, of course, but I think I'd like one of my legacy houses. Do I have a chance at AXO? Is GPhi a decent house? Honestly I can't tell on here.

Well for starters, I'm pretty sure you're a troll trying to stir up drama. But just incase you're not, I'll answer.
It would honestly not be hard at all for you to figure out about these houses. All you have to do is read. Those are 2 of the houses that it's pretty obvious to see on here where they rank.
Alpha Chi is a strong chapter. They are considered a "top tier" house. They have the highest GPA. Without connections and being a legacy from a different school than Alabama, good luck. It isn't impossible, just not very likely. Gamma Phi, on the other hand, is considered "bottom tier" house. The two are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum. They're both great, though. It just depends on where you would fit in. It would most likely be very easy for you to get into Gamma Phi, especially as a legacy. Unless you have horrible grades, a horrible reputation, or a horrible personality, then that shouldn't be a problem. Without connections, I wouldn't get your hopes up on Alpha Chi. If you fit in perfectly with them, then it might work out. Just have an open mind, for both of your legacy houses, and for all of the other ones on campus. It would be great to be in the same organization as your mom or grandmother, but you may not fit in with their houses like they did. Be open to the other houses too.
Long story short, Alpha Chi is hard to get into, and they don't let just anybody in. Gamma Phi tends to have retention issues, and they usually take pretty much anyone.

I think people are extremely hard on Gamma Phi. I've made friends with several, and they have all been very nice, sweet girls. I think a lot of people have noticed improvements within the sorority, and feel as though the reputation of their house/rank is threatened. It doesn't need to be that way, but thanks to the ridiculousness of the dynamics of Old/New Row and The Machine, it is. For the most part, the Gamma Phis I know aren't into the pretentiousness of social climbing- they just do their own thing and enjoy each other's company. And that is what makes them unique.
From the looks of it, they have an absolutely BEAUTIFUL new house, and appear to have a tight-knit sisterhood.

Yes, I completely agree. I don't doubt that they have tons and tons of down to earth and really sweet girls. And I LOVE their new house, or at least what it's supposed to look like. I wasn't trying to be hard on Gamma Phi, but she asked if it was a decent house. The answer to that is yes. All I did was tell her where a lot of people "rank" them, which is last. There are rankings of our sororities here, therefore someone has to be top and someone has to be bottom, but just because Gamma Phi is usually ranked last doesn't mean that it isn't a great chapter. It is. It just depends on if she would fit in with them or not. And since they are considered bottom tier, it shouldn't be hard for her to get in.
