Amen! On the same post you'll see "all the houses are great" and in the next breath "but we're top in grades, so we're top." Shut up already. Grades are important, but so are social skills, connections, families, leadership, and involvement.

First I will admit something. I am a dad checking out this page after somebody sent me the link after telling me about it. I am from Texas and my daughter is open to all the houses. They have the recs all set and the like. After reading some of this it is clear that y'all have two camps for ranking. There are those that rank based on experienced demand. Who are most sought after. Then there is another camp what is more basing on actual current or recent performance. Theses two may be correlated for the top houses but on the ones you debate about there is good competition. I personally tend to root for the underdog but I will be all in to help anyway I can with whatever house she picks. Looks like she can't go wrong at 2/3 of them. As a dad with live ammo and no interest in seeing a scholarship get lost,I don't love the houses with the looser reps and low grades.

Good for you for supporting your daughter in anything she does! I agree with you about the looser rep, but I will say something about the grades- I personally am very high achieving and have a large scholarship, but ended up in a house on the lower end of the grade report. It bothered me (and my parents!) at first, but then I realized that my house's GPA wasn't going to affect mine, and that a house needs smart, dedicated girls to raise their GPA in the first place. I try to help my sisters who struggle as best as I can, and on the off chance that your daughter has a situation like mine, I urge you to tell her to stick with it and do the same :)

What do you mean? I see nothing in either the comment or the reply that seems untrue...

I second the comment that you shouldn't be that concerned about a house's grades unless there is another red flag. For example our house with the lowest grades also has the reputation as constant partiers and a house that picks girls for their looks not their personalities.

For most houses it just means that when they recruited girls they were not able to get the ones who had the best grades. It doesn't mean the individual girls in the house don't study.

I'll add to this for the Texas dad. A house average above a 3.0 is still nothing to sneeze at. Most of the houses are split by tenths of points on the grade report, so even middle of the pack is still strong. Good luck to your daughter during rush. I hope she has a happy experience and finds a great home!

Aright tx dad with the ammo. I get your point. I may stay away from tx freshees this fall... But second semester, all bets are off. If your daughter is good to go, she will find her people anywhere except agd, aopi and alpha chi. Dont be fooled into thinking theta are all nerdy good girls, they are right sporting. Just letting you know. Xo is not as easy as people think, either.
