sorority recs

Do we have to have sorority recommendations for every sorority? Or how many should we get recs for? Also, do they have to be Alabama alumni?

You should get at least one rec for EVERY SINGLE SORORITY. It is a national rule for a lot of the groups that in order to give a bid the PNM has to have a recommendation. It is not completely necessary to get more than 1 per chapter, but it is highly suggested that you get more than 1. I suggest 2 recs and 1 or 2 letters at least. But if you can't get anything more than one rec, that is fine! DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT! But if you can get more, then do it! Don't stress out too much. Just get at least one per chapter and more if possible.

As for Alabama alumni, it is good for the recs to be from alumni who went to Alabama. But it is not necessary. In most cases, it would be better for it to be from alumni who went to another school but that knows you personally. A rec from someone who can speak from experience about you as apposed to an "information only" rec will hold more weight. But if you can get an Alabama alumni to write one that knows you personally, then do it! Just don't worry about it too much. But yes you do need at least one rec for each chapter on campus!

There are alumni ALL AROUND YOU. Greek life is more prominent in the south than it is in the north, but it still exists up there. Ask ALL of your mothers friends, your teachers, your coaches, your neighbors, etc. Oh and ask them if they know anyone who was in a sorority. It really isn't that hard, but it takes a lot of work. If you ask every single human being that you know, and you still don't have enough, then contact the alumni association that is closest to you. Tell them that you have been working really hard to get recs for Alabama but that you have hit a wall, and ask them very nicely if there is anyone that can help you and write you a rec. But really, you have to work for this. Getting into a sorority doesn't just happen. Girls start preparing months in advance for this. You're starting really late. But don't fret, that's only going to make it worse. You still have plenty of time. Just get to work and find those recs!!!

Also e-mail the chapter and send them your resume, photo and transcript, and ask for help.

What I hate is girls from big cities where there are TONS of alumnae of my sorority, and they claim they can't find a member to write a rec.
We figure they're just lazy.
