recs

by: pnm

Does it look bad if we email the chapters for help getting recs? I know it says we can do that on the website, but do they look down on it? I'm having issues finding recs for a couple houses and I would rather exhaust all my resources than just give up. Thanks!!

Most chapters won't really honor a rec from a person that doesn't know you personally. Its worth a shot, but what's a recommendation if the writer doesn't even know you? It defeats the purpose of a rec!

It depends on the house. some really care about recs. others only want to make sure you have one or two and they don't really care who from. bottom line is if they want you they will find take whatever rec is there. if they dont want you all the recs in the world will not matter. if you are on the bubble, recs could sway one way or another, but not much.

If you have truly tried everything, then sure - send an e-mail. Couldn't hurt. But when we get places where we have tons of alumnae, we just figure the person is too lazy to ask very many people.
