graduate chapters
by: CuriousJust curious as I'm moving to Alabama for grad school.... Are there any grad chapters of sororities? A friend of mine was able to rush gamma phi in Cali as a first year grad but it wasn't like formal or anything and I'm sure here in the south it's different. Im not really sure how all of it works down in the south so just curious if there are specific chapters set aside for grad/professional students or is it just sorority preference

Ok not to sound rude but clearly you didn't read my post.. While my friend was able to rush with undergrads in California (btw she was only 21 and money and family issues held her from rushing undergrad), my question was are there grad chapters here for sororities such as how NPHC sororities have graduate chapters for women with degrees that are separate from the undergrad chapters... Besides I don't feel hanging out with younger girls is that weird (maybe I'm just weird) because while you're on two different pages in life you can offer them something (wisdom, educational advice) and vice versa...

NPC sororities do not have grad chapters. You pledge as an underclassman. A few sororities may take grad students, but it's not the norm.
Some NPC groups have liberal alumnae initiation policies, but you would not be working with the collegiate chapter - you'd be doing things with the Tuscaloosa alumnae chapter.
If you did graduate school here, it would be VERY unusual to to pledge a collegiate NPC chapter. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it would be highly unusual.

My sorority has Alumnae initiation. What that means is, if you uphold our sorority's values, you can be initiated into it years past undergrad. These initiations are held through Alumnae chapters and not through collegiate ones. You do have to have connections to a member though. That is probably what your friend did.

Our alumni chapter can sponsor someone who they think upholds our values, etc. and submits it to nationals; along with some qualifications like completing a undergraduate degree in college... They okay it, they are initiated but do not become an active as a person in college would, it is more like going straight to being an alumni member of the sorority.

Ok thanks for the info! Yeah I was thinking the NPC sororities. I was a part of a business frat in undergrad but of course it wasn't the other experience I'm looking for now although it was great. It's confusing though because everyone on here has basically said no you can't you're a grad student but when my friend contacted NPC they said conference wise you can but it's on a case by case basis meaning school and individual chapter decisions so to contact them but I just feel like contacting each sorority about that would be weird maybe and nine times out of ten even if I'm allowed to they'd all say heck no anyway because of my school status plus age
