Old row- older sororities/frats. They're sponsored by Budweiser and they're the most prestigious. They typically get the best pledge classes, win the most awards, and many would say they're the most relevant.

Axo, xo, kd, kkg, ddd, phi mu, agd

They're all really good. Axo/xo/agd are known for academics, but they def still have fun
Kd/kkg/ddd are known to be super wild partiers who have the "don't care" attitude
Phi mu has pretty girls and they have fun, but are known to be super super stuck up and snobby

All are known for $$$$.

3 explanations:
Old Row - Fraternities (not sororities) found on the west side of campus along University Boulevard. This area was, years ago, the location of all fraternities on campus. In the 1960s, fraternities began to build houses on the east side of campus. This area is referred to as "New Row."

Old Row - a sub-organization of fraternities and sororities, not sanctioned by the university. Each group pays in an amount (several thousand dollars) for a big beer party twice a year. Members must be invited to join, but age and tier are not factors. Some sororities are barred from joining because of rules against using chapter money for alcohol purchases.

Old Row - Originally meant to refer to only fraternities, this term is being increasingly used to refer to both sororities and fraternities. Its use often means the most prestigious, "top tier" greek groups (some of these are NOT the oldest chapters on campus). Another term for top tier sororities is "First Circle," which is a physical location, which was a cul-de-sac bounded by Kappa Delta, Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Delta Delta and Alpha Chi Omega. There is also a now-obsolete term, Second Circle, which was another cul-de-sac (now obliterated) bound by Chi Omega, Alpha Delta Pi, and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Old Row - the need for people to feel extra special! All sororities at Bama are great.
