prefs and bids

by: Future bama

So if you go to three pref parties rank all to increase your chance of getting a bid in any of them? And you can only get invited to one bid party correct? And that means you made it in? And you find that out that morning right? Help

If you go to 3 pref parties and rank all of them on your sheet after pref, then you are guaranteed a bid to one of the 3 houses. If you go to 3 pref parties and only list 1 or 2 of the houses on your sheet, then there is a very big possibility that you might not match with either, therefore getting dropped from recruitment completely.

LIST ALL OF THE SORORITIES YOU WENT TO FOR PREF ON YOUR SHEET AFTER PREF. Unless you absolutely 100% CANNOT see yourself being in one or two of the houses. If you aren't really sure, then take a chance. If you do get a house your not sure about, you might end up falling in love with it. That happens to some people. The only reason that you should not list all of the sororities you went to for pref, is if you are positively sure no doubt about it that you wouldn't fit in or like the house at all. Just understand that if you do not list all of the houses you went to for pref, there is a big possibility that you might not get a bid to any house. You would not be in a sorority.

So you go to your pref parties, and after that you go and rank your parties 1 2 and 3. (if you only went to 1 or 2 pref parties, that is very common. It is okay) So you list your favorite of these houses as number 1, then your next favorite as 2, and then your least favorite as 3.

After pref, each house makes a list of the girls they want. Whatever the quota number is, thats how many girls will be on each sorority's list. If you rank a house number 1, and that house ra

If you rank a house number 1, and that house ranks you on their first bid list, then that is the house you will get a bid from. If you rank a house number 1, but you aren't on their first bid list, then they'll check the house you ranked #2 to see if you are on their first bid list. And if you aren't on their first bid list, they'll check the house you ranked #3 and see if you are on their first bid list.

If you aren't on the 3rd houses bid list, then you will be a quota addition to one of the 3 houses.

Say Sally, a PNM, is on XYZ's first bid list, but Sally ranked XYZ #2. She had ABC as her #1. ABC had Sally on their first bid list. So Sally matches with ABC. But since Sally was on XYZ's first bid list, she will drop off the list and make room for another girl to get a bid from XYZ. Say Polly, another PNM, ranked XYZ #1, but was the first person on the 2nd bid list for XYZ. Since Sally matched with ABC and not XYZ, she will drop of XYZ's first bid list, thus making room for Polly to move up to the first bid list for XYZ. So Polly then matched with XYZ!

I hope that made sense! It's very confusing at first. So if you rank DEF #1, but you are not on their first bid list, then the only way for you to match with DEF is for someone/multiple people on their first bid list to have matched with a different house, and for you to have been high enough on their second bid list to move up to the first bid list.

So you rank your houses after pref and then go back to your dorm for the night. If you did not maximize your options (if you did not list all the houses that you went to for pref), and you happened to get dropped from recruitment entirely, you will get a call telling you. But if you did maximize your options after pref, then you are guaranteed a bid to one of those houses! YAY! So now all that's left to do is wait! So you wake up the next morning and get ready and go to the stadium. You'll be handed a manilla envelope that has your bid card inside. The bid card will say the name of the sorority that you matched with, and that you are now a member of! All the PNMs open their envelopes and see what house they got. Then you run to your new house with your new sisters and attend the fun bid day activities!

When you open your envelope and see the name of the sorority you got, it is official. You can't get another house unless you do not accept your bid and you rush next year (which I do not recommend). But once you sign your bid card that is your new home!

Forgot to say - when you open your envelope and see the sorority you got, you are now a new member. You won't actually be an active member until you are initiated. So for a few weeks/months you will be in the new member period. But after you are initiated, you will be an active member!
