sophomore rushing

by: Sophomore

I graduated high school a year early and rushed at UA my freshman year of college but I was only 16 and it was hard to get into a sorority because of my age. I took a year off this last year and am going back in the fall and will be 18. The main problem is: My freshman year GPA was a 2.97. In high school, I had a 4.0 GPA but I took a heavy course load my second semester of my freshman year and didn't try very hard. Online, it said anything below a 3.0 would hurt my chances of getting into a sorority, but it also said the average GPA of girls pledging a sorority after their freshman year was a 3.1. What are my chances of getting into one of the top tier sororities?

If you are only interested in being in a top tier sorority, please do everyone a favor and don't bother rushing. In addition, it's not that hard to have a 4.0 in high school, but having less than a 3.0 in college means that you're going to be faced with some HEAVY cuts after the first round, and explaining your year off won't really help. Honestly I wouldn't do it. Sorry to be so blunt but I don't think you would be successful -- especially if all you want is "top tier"
