What will happen if you get into a lower tier house?
There will still be swaps. There will still be cute guys. There will still be friends and fun. There will still be great opportunities to become a leader, to do well in school, to do anything that a higher tier house can do.
All of the houses at Alabama are outstanding in some way and are among the top chapters in their sorority.
And after graduation, what sorority that you pledged won't matter as much as that you pledged one and you were a member.

Okay, I'm going to play devil's advocate here and not crucify you for the tier comment.

First of all, there are many factors that go into how "old row" houses choose their pledge class: looks, knowing girls in the house, where you are from, and how good your resume is. Keep in mind that you don't necessarily need all of these qualities perfectly, but probably more than one, and coming in with no connections whatsoever will probably cut a lot of old row houses for you. It certainly did for me, and I got a bid from what you would probably consider to be a "lower tier" house, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. My chapter is full of beautiful, smart, compassionate, funny, and driven young women that I am so proud to call my sisters. Please don't write houses off based on imaginary rankings.

Secondly, everyone is worried about the actives not liking them. That's normal, but unless you are outright rude to them, I promise this will not be an issue. (Also, please know that getting a cut from a house isn't always personal. We can only take so many girls, so being dropped doesn't mean that the girls you talked to didn't like you.)

Finally, yes, racism is a big issue in the greek system. Though you will certainly meet some people who have been taught those old, hateful views, I was surprised by how open minded and progressive our student body is as a whole.

honestly?seriously? legit? If you get into a sorority, it is more about how you make your experience. There are about 400 girls in a sorority, I would hope you would be able to make 1 friend.

As a member of a so called "lower tier" house, I am actually so offended by all of you pnms coming on here and acting like you're better than us. You aren't even in a sorority yet! Contrary to popular belief, I chose my "lower tier" house over houses that are consistently ranked higher than my sorority because I felt like it was where I fit in the best. Joining a sorority is not a popularity contest and I can guarantee that if you go in with that attitude, you will be unhappy at the end of the week and in a sorority that you don't truly fit into because you were too busy trying to be someone else so you could impress the "top tier" houses. Every house at Alabama is great! Some girls' personalities truly fit in to the "top" houses while others fit in better with the "Lower" houses. But honestly, your experience will not be any better if you join an old row house over a new row house--there are still more parties than you have time for and loads of great friends. Stop obsessing over tiers before you ruin your whole rush experience for yourself because I can assure you that the "lower tier" houses aren't hurting for members. If you show up and act like a pretentious snob, you will be dropped, and we all have friends in other houses and we won't be afraid to tell them about your attitude. Word spreads fast in the Greek system.
