rec letters

by: PNM

Are all Recs due the same day or do a lot of sororities have their own due dates? I heard a rumor that recs are due June 1st for XO, can anyone confirm this?

I know that Chi O took me by surprise, they have a very specific process for recs that requires them to be submitted almost a month(?) in advance before they are due. I'm not sure on the exact amount of time, but by the time I found a Chi O alum to write my rec, it was too late for it to be sent in.

It says on their local chapter website July 20. I know KD is June 4.

recs don't matter - don't waste your time

WHY would you take the time to come on here and say something like this. You're just annoying everybody by saying something that is so obviously not correct

Bologna. Recs DO matter. This is probably a frat guy. I'm using "frat" deliberately.

If you haven't already- check your local alumni association. If you don't have one in your town since it's rural, contact the one that is nearest to you. They should have someone from more of the sororities you need! Be very very polite with them. Offer to drive into their town and meet with one or a few of them for coffee or lunch or something so they can get to know you a little bit.

Talk to everyone you know! Just because one person wasn't in a sorority that is on Alabama's campus doesn't mean that her mother, sister, etc. wasn't! But be sure to be polite to everyone you speak to. They will be taking time out of their days to recommend you for something that is very near and dear to their heart. Some people may be hesitant to write you one if they don't know you and don't really know the type of person you are, so be sure to be on your best behavior while talking to them. Ask the ladies who are writing you recs for KD, Chi O, Alpha Gam, and Phi Mu if they know anyone in any of the other sororities who could possibly write you a rec. They all have lots and lots of friends, so it's worth a shot! Tell them how thankful you are that they are helping you (send them a thank you letter too) and how excited you are about the recruitment process.

cont.
You only named that there were lots of actives in your town for 4 sororities. I would guess that there are at least 10 different NPC sororities (and probably lots more) between your 2 big state schools, along with the other smaller schools in your state. I know a lot more actives from my hometown in 3 certain sororities than all the others, and I hardly know any in a few of them. But they are out there if you look hard enough. Do some snooping to figure out about some people that you don't know if they're greek or not. Ask your friends who are going to Alabama or another school who is going through recruitment if they know anyone who could write you a rec.
