blacks in fraternities

by: question

I'm a black male who was accepted to several Ivy league universities, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Georgetown and Johns Hopkins. I chose Alabama because I received a full ride scholarship due to my hs GPA (4.5) and my SAT (2260). While here, I plan on rushing a fraternity, will my race serve as an obstacle?

For you, the fraternities that will hold your race against you are ones you will not want to associate with anyway. The ones that are known for being more respectful/studious/etc all have members from every race

Are you that kid from the news? Everyone will know your name, I think you will be fine. I mean like the above poster mentioned you won't be a DKE but I have a feeling you wouldn't want to be one anyway.

Stop trying to stir up drama. We all saw this article on multiple news sources and we all know you're not him.

I think someone that smart would know that if he posted here people would automatically know who he was.

If you really are the guy, just rush around and try to find the guys you feel like you fit in with the best. Anyone that wouldn't want you because of your skin color is ridiculous and wouldn't be the people you'd want to befriend anyways.Maybe try Sig Ep and ATO. They both really focus on grades and are very progressive on campus. They're also really popular with girls.

Sig Eps are not popular with girls.

Exactly what @Active said. Sig Ep and ATO are actually two of the best if you want to talk quality rather than superficial. That is one reason why new row may have it over old row, because the old row frats are filled with some pretty low character boys (although they may be from Vestavia, Mountain Brook or private schools in mobile or Montgomery and connected, they still have one track minds...). All depends on what kind of guy you like to spend time with.

You'll be treated the same as anyone else. You're not the only one at Bama to turn down ivies for a full ride. I did. Well not ivies but other "prestigious" schools. Bama is filled with extremely smart people depending on your major.

Agree. Alabama, surprisingly to some, can be very academically rigorous to those that seek out the most challenging opportunities. Bama grads head off to all the top professional schools, ivy or non. The guy made a great call.

This was written by some troll who's heard about that guy in the news. If he does go through recruitment and you hold this against him it will be stupid. No one would post on an anonymous website and give so much description.

It's funny because Stanford and georgetown are not ivy leauges so you're not fooling anyone here

If you read the article or could read the post clearly you would know that the guy was accepted to Ivy league schools plus georgetown, stanford, johns hopkins, and vanderbilt.

Georgetown and Stanford are like new row to the Ivy League. I think in that situation I would choose Palo Alto or DC over south philly or new London...

Everyone knows that Stanford, Vandy, and Georgetown are just as good as Ivies, but the kids are more laid back and not totally douchey about it.
