Why is Theta consistently ranked low? They are ranked badly but nothing bad is ever really said. What is wrong with the house?

A lot of it is that they're unaffiliated. In other respects, they're chill and laid-back with strong sisterhood, they have respectable (though not top) grades and involvement, and they have a decent social calendar for where they are in the rankings. They have a stereotype for taking less attractive girls, but with 350+ members they have plenty of pretty girls too.

what do you mean they're unaffiliated?

Actually they affiliated this past year. Machine added them when the election looked close them regretted it when they lost by 2000

they're not members of the Machine, they've been offered a place but they voted as a chapter and decided against it.

Theta is not affiliated. They were offered a spot this past spring but have not accepted as of now.

Honestly the machine is losing steam. After alpha gam's opposition this spring I'm not surprised theta decided to stay out this year.

They're one of the newer houses and a northern sorority (Illinois). You'll notice the bottom houses are some of the newer ones. Traditions die hard, especially if you don't cozy up to the machine.

This might be dumb, but what exactly is the machine?

Theta was founded in Indiana. But that doesn't really have anything to do with a house being strong or not. Theta has a stronger presence up north/out west so that is where most of their legacies/interest comes from. They don't have as many chapters in the sec as chi o or Adpi, but they are getting stronger.

Maybe not at Alabama but PBP, KKG, and KAT are considered the holy trinity of sororities... Known as PKT. They are very strong at elite institutions and the Ivies including Harvard and Yale. They are also very particular about where they will establish chapters.

Lol not made up, I've heard of this it too. Go look at other schools' greekrank pages or talk to your friends about their Greek life and you'll hear about it. Life isn't always centered around Alabama.

PKT is a university of Texas thing. Not really anywhere else. None of these three sororities are particularly strong in the sec.

Omg! You are a bunch of Alabama Hillbillies! PKT is a thing and not just in Texas. These are the top houses at Stanford, MIT, Vanderbilt, Emory, USC, UCLA, Duke, UVA, Chicago, UCLA, and most of the Ivies. I can't believe my sister wants to go to school at Alabama. Phi mu is non-existent at most of these places or known as moo-moos if they are there.

PKT is a Texas thing- Texas is always on this page for some reason. what is good in texas is not the best in the south.

there are a lot of sororities at the IVY League level including our top tier at Alabama. I looked at Harvard's page and Pi Phi is not even there?! Also Theta has only been at Harvard (the first sorority) for a very small amount of time so its not like there is some rich history or tradition with them at Harvard or any of the other 2 sororities (alpha pi just came on board I believe). Alabama's sororities have been on this campus - some of them for over 100 years and we are rich in traditions and history - so please stop putting your pkt thing on us. You have your traditions but we have ours and we value the time energy and creativity it took to built this amazing system up. We don't tear down what you are trying to build in Texas but please don't tear us down either.

really laugh - is I am from Texas and Theta is NOT top tier at Texas Tech, Texas A&M, or TCU only at Texas, SMU and Baylor. so please know that this is ONLY a University of Texas thing and does not transfer to the rest of Texas. I don't know why they are feeling the need to push this agenda on all of us but it will never happen in the south. ever.

Actually there aren't a lot of sororities at the Ivy League level. Yale, harvard, Princeton, and Brown only have 3 sororities. Harvard only has kappa, Alpha Phi, and Theta. Theta is considered the top house at all of these schools. Harvard has only had sororities since the 60s because they merged with Radcliffe College (an all girls' school). Their Greek system is not acknowledged by the school, but they are allowed to stay under the radar. Honestly, it's neither here nor there. I just felt the need to correct you since you didn't know what you were talking about.

In all honestly in Texas the Greek systems with the most wealth, history, and prestige are UT and SMU. And in both PKT are at the very top. Where I grew up those three were very very sought after even to high schoolers. They would be like if you had pledge classes at Alabama where 85% came from Mountain Brook. Laura Bush, the Bush Twins, Lynne Cheney, Victoria Kennedy, and Cindy McCain are all Thetas. The Bushes and Kennedy from Southern universities.

Okay can we please all stop being catty and support each other? Isn't that what Panhellenic is all about? PNMS, if you like Theta and you feel like you fit in there, go for it! Theta is a great sorority, nationally and at Alabama, and if you join them, you'll be pledging a great house. If you don't feel like Theta is for you, there are many other great houses at Alabama where you can find somewhere you fit in and make really great friends. Ultimately, joining a sorority is about finding your home away from home--not finding the "popular" girls or the people you think will make you look the best to others. Please pick based on where you feel the most at home or else I guarantee you that you will end up unhappy!

PKT is a University of Texas thing! Growing up in Texas, I didn't even think there were other sororities at UT because this was all you heard. Chi O seems to have come in strong there, too.
