by: PnmWhat if something extremely tragic happened in your life in highschool like your mom died in a car crash.....Would sororites be more lenient on your grades and how would you tell them about this? Would you get the people writing your recs to say something about it or put it on your social resume?? I need help!

I'm sorry that you had a tough time in high school, PNM, I really am, but you have to remember that there are a bunch of other girls that have experienced the same thing that did not let bad experiences affect them negatively. As harsh as this sounds, you can't always make an excuse as to why you performed poorly. In your case, I would definitely have your rec writer mention it, but very rarely are recs actually read. Theyre mostly just a way to weed girls out based on whether or not you have one so I would not rely on it to save you. I know for my house, PNMS are automatically cut by a computer program after the first round if they're under a 3.0--no matter what reason they have for their grades. Just go in with your best foot forward and an open mind! Good luck!

I totally agree. I talked to a girl last year who had a very upsetting story and it honestly just upset me and made me feel VERY uncomfortable. I had literally just met the girl 5 minutes ago and she was telling me this awful thing that had happened to her and it was extremely awkward. Yes, you want to get to know the actives rushing you, but remember there is such a thing as over sharing. If you are telling your active something you wouldn't tell other people if you just met them normally, you should probably reconsider.
