dear pnms

by:

I'm southern & my mom and aunts were members of a "top tier" house here at Bama. I had a 30 act, 4.0 gpa, super involved, outgoing, etc. I was dropped by every house but 2 that are always called "bottom tier" on this site. You can list your accomplishments here but no one has a guaranteed bid to any house, I really urge you to trust the rush process & go in with a super open mind. I'm not trying to worry anyone with this post but know that rush isn't perfect & that having an open mind will be your greatest asset!

I hope that with your high grades and ACT you were smart enough to realize that the bottom houses here are great. I hope that you were not stupid enough to let people on greekrank decide that the only houses that wanted you were not good enough for you. I hope you were smart enough to see that those houses could offer you wonderful sisterhood and that you were brave enough to take them up on it.

She's obviously pushing being open minded so I'm assuming she gave it a shot

I bet she didn't give it a shot and now she's sorry and that's why she's posting advice on here.

Advice to PNMs == give any house a shot. Your experience will be what YOU make it, not what the reputation is of any house. Guys truly don't care about the letters after their superficial-we-don't-know-anything stage as freshmen. All houses offer sisterhood and a chance for a lifetime connection with amazing women.

Each chapter is different at every school. Each chapter has good and bad. Probably more important to be greek than not at all. I agree the selection process is not perfect. Best advice look at the girls you keep seeing at the houses you are selected for. Your pledge class is where it is at for friendships. So if you like who is sitting next to you on pref night then go for it. It can be awful if you pick a house because you think they are top. I have seen that change with a few good pledge classes.

IF you make any decision that does not involve your heart in this process you will regret the next four years. Please do not EVER go with a house based on what someone else says. Your opinion is all that matters. remember that- that is the only way you will be happy. stay true to yourself and in the end you will have more respect for yourself and your sorority. I knew where I was supposed to be the first day- some are not that lucky. I know this is personal but I just prayed over my decision and really thought about what was the best house for me and I have never regretted it. Please don't worry so much- I hat this site- it scares people and sorority life really is so much fun. don't believe the haters on this site.

Great comment! Yes, don't listen to tent talk. It's nothing but toxic rumors and hearsay. Poor sad girls disregard this advice and drop out of recruitment every year when they get dropped by all the houses they've heard are "good." They don't realize that being in any house is far superior to being independent at Alabama.
