In the Greek Chic Mag. posted on the Panhell site as well as I'm sure mailed to PNM's home every house has a GPA listed. If I were a rushee I would assume those numbers to be the minimum GPA required. These sorority houses take academics seriously. If it is a cut off to start looking at PNM's that is a decision of both the local and national chapter!

Of course girls with less than a 3.0 are going to get dropped! SEC schools have a COMPETATIVE recruitment! If you know about the need for recs, then you HAVE to know about the importance of GPA. With so many girls coming through with 4.0 gpa, tons of extra activities, excellent recs... why would someone with lower than 3.0 be held onto when there are so many others who have better??? Want to get a bid with a lower gpa? Go to a non-competative school!

It is sad that you are so worked up about rush. Your daughter probably could have had a great chance at sn amazing sisterhood if you hadn't filled her full of herself that she couldn't consider any but the top 3 houses. There are lots of good houses here that are ladylike and sweet, just not the top name. So quit whining and try to support your daughter.

Then the panhellenic needs to say "no one under a 4.0 need apply" A GPA lower than a 3.0 was good enough to get into the university but not to participate in a sorority?! And thank you to an earlier poster who was giving the reasons a girl was dropped - that preference is given to girls from in-state. You actively recruit out of state and hold recruitment seminars taunting the out of state student to come, then say the Alabama girls are given priority or at an advantage

The deal is that Alabama has a lot of houses. The "top" houses require top grades. But there are several houses that don't. I agree that the problem is that you have made your daughters feel like they're failures if they pledge any house that isn't a "top" house. The problem isn't what panhellenic needed to say, rather it's what you needed to say to your daughter. If you had told her that all the houses offered wonderful sisterhood and asked her to look at her invites with new eyes everyday. she would have been in a sorority. Not a "top" one, but a good one. Shame on you for ruining her prospects with your silliness about where sororities are ranked.
