rush week
by: Bama boundCan someone explain what rushing for sororities is like? Like what's the process? When do I need letters of rec by? Do freshman who are rushing get to move in early? I'm from out of state and I think the rush process here is a bit different. Thanks!!

Rush week is about a week and a half before class starts.
Sorority girls move in a week before recruitment and spend the week rehearsing skits and songs, practicing rotation groups, critiquing outfits, and learning about the PNMs. PNMs move in and rush begins with a big meeting where you are sorted into different groups. Your group will have counselors called Rho Chis ("recruitment counselor" - get it?).
The first two days, you and your group will visit every sorority for about 20 minutes each. At the end of each day, you rank the 16 sororities you visited. The rest of recruitment is by invitation. Sororities start whittling down the pool of PNMs they're interested in. The next round (which is also two days), you could return to up to 12 sororities. You could get invited to 12...or 8...or 2...or 0. These parties are about 30 minutes each. Same thing - you rank, the sororities eliminate. Third round (skit round) you could get invited back to 8 sororities maximum. Parties are about 45 minutes each, and are spread out over two days. Final round is preference. You can be invited back to 3 parties maximum. You rank, they rank, the computer matches, and on Saturday you either get a very early call saying you don't have a bid, OR you get no call, go to the stadium, and open an envelope which tells you which sorority you have a bid (invitation to join) to.
