california girl rushing but want southern sorority
by: southern wannabeI'm from California and going through rush. I don't want to be put in a particular sorority just because of where i grew up. Can a California girl get into one of the Southern Sororities?

Basically, if it's not the South, it's automatically generalized as "the North," unless you want to get real specific and actually specify the region (i.e. Midwest or West Coast). Calm your t i t s.

You are going to be heartbroken if u get you hear set on one house, ESP a "southern" one. They say that most girls who get bids are from out of state, but those states are GA FL TX MS TN. Some houses have less than 15% non southern girls. So that means about 15 spots. So if you are hoping to get into a one specific sorority that tends to be southern, your odds are about 1%. Good luck, your hope is probably not going to be reality.

Only two or three houses have majority Southern girls. Most sororities have lots of non-Southerners.
Besides, you can't do anything about being from California. Embrace and enjoy.

You're going to be heartbroken once you're in the house if you do get a bid. Remember, these girls have ties that go back a couple of hundred years sometimes. Their grandmas were pledge sisters. They're not going to love you because they know you'll be out of their lives in four years. Plus, you'll never get the inside jokes, understand about the guys they all knew before college, know all the intricate etiquette that governs their lives, etc. You'll always be an outsider.

Please, tell me what's a Southern sorority and what's not. All the sororities have chapters all over the country, and many in Canada as well.
All the Alabama chapters have members from all over the country, and even some other countries.
And all have members from the South.
Find out where you feel comfortable - that's your home.

Exactly...I'm from CA and am in a good sorority that I love. There are southern and non-southern girls in every house

If you want a great house and plan on going back to CA after you graduate think twice about what UA calls top because several of them rant even on the radar in the majority of the US, especially CA
