is it worth joining a fraternity at bama? how come there's so many more frats than srats? and why do fraternity only have like 100 members when the girls have like 400?

if you're not weird, then 100% rush, they are smaller just because of how rush works. Also, make sure you go to rush events over the summer or Bama bound. By the time you get to school in the fall most bids will already be given out. There are more frats just because that's how it is. Sometimes people put rush guides or rankings to fraternities on here, they aren't a bible, but definitely look at the ones more near to the top to look to. Go to the fraternities insta page, they usually have instructions on how to contact the rush chair about going to an event. Lastly, just because a fraternity doesn't have an official rush event during the times your in town, doesn't mean you can't get a bid. Tell the rush chair when you're in town, and they will make it work for you. It's their job to recruit, so don't feel bad if you can't make an official event and have to do a more impromtu event.

Most of the national sororities are already at Bama. The few that aren't are too small to be able to build sorority houses comparable to the ones that are here and so wouldn't be able to compete for numbers, that's why they aren't here. As far as the large memberships, sororities are organized and cooperative in their rush process to ensure maximum number of bids offered and maintain equitable numbers of members, with no sorority getting too big or too small.

Fraternities just operate as individual chapters and are more competitive with each other rather than cooperative, so there are more of them and smaller with some much smaller ones and not so much an organized rush process. Less bids, less members, etc.

1) is being from the east coast now code for being a yankee from the northeast?
2) don’t ever say frats at Alabama like ever. People will know you’re an outsider. Always say fraternities.
3) Alabama rush is all about connections and who you know. If you sign up for formal rush and make that the first time you’re meeting fraternity guys, then you’ll end up at a house you don’t like or won’t get a bid.

My advice to you is to reach out to the rush chairs at the fraternities. Meet them when you’re in town for Bama bound or come down for rush events. Honestly don’t be afraid to put yourself out there. This is Alabama, where ppl don’t like boys who are scared betas, so you really just have to take charge and shoot your shot. Whatever you do, don’t have your mom or dad call for you. You def won’t get a bid. If you know any guys (actives or alums) who were in fraternities at Alabama, talk to them and let them connect you with people.

Greek life is huge at Alabama, the biggest in the nation, however tbh you do not have to be in it to enjoy UA. It will be a totally different experience to be in one than not one though. Fyi Alabama fraternities are absolutely notorious for hazing. They’re all good ole boys clubs and they still do it old school. No DEI , gentle pledging going on
