by:

everyone told me to follow my heart on pref and i did. i got my first choice but i do not know if i made the right choice. i feel so out of place and overwhelmed. my bid day big even told me that her rush crush did not run home to her so i do not even feel comfortable asking her for advice and i do not know any other older girls yet. will it get better or should i just drop now?

It will definitely get better. So many people feel like this. It's a lot all at once. There are so many fun activities coming up and you will find your group.

This is so very normal! Please stick it out and keep putting yourself out there. It will take awhile to feel at home and be comfortable. Keep going to house for every meal, hang out, study there and give it time! Very normal!

stick it out for sure! just bc she’s your bid day big doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to get to know other older members! that doesn’t mean she will automatically become your big either. start to get know some girls. meet new people from your mc and i promise it will be all worth it!

It will take awhile to find your people…..this is true if you are in a sorority or just trying to make friends in a dorm. You will get out of it what you put into it. Jump in

What you are feeling is normal and I bet you are not the only new member feeling that way. It’s sort of like the build up to Christmas, or a big trip. You’re excited and think about how it will be and build it up so much that the actuality of the situation could never live up to the hype you gave it. Reach out to your new member educator-it’s part of her job to look after all the new members. What you can do is find some new members in your dorm and walk to the house with them. Ask them to get a coffee with you. Go to the house as much as possible, especially for lunch and dinner. Be bold and introduce yourself to a group that just sat down to eat and ask if you could sit with them. Ask them questions so that you get to know them. Put yourself out there and soon you will feel more at home.

I’m so sorry that your Bid Day Big said that to you! Fellow actives, we can do better than that to make our new members feel welcomed!

What is it about your house house that makes you feel overwhelmed? Is it sorority life overall, or feeling like you really belong somewhere else? Second guessing is completely normal, but most of the time, it does get better.

Focus on getting to know to girls in your PC. They’re the ones you’ll spend the next 4 years with. Hopefully there are activities in your house that foster those relationships.

Having said that, as you draw closer to initiation, if your heart is leaning hard into staying, it’s really okay to drop.

Shame in your big! Don't let her spoil your experience. Give it time!
