COB chapters announced
by: get a bid
Panhellenic has announced the chapters eligible for COB. Just bc they are eligible, doesn't mean they will participate. But if anyone wants to go greek, you can! From Panhellenic:
The following chapters were eligible for Continuous Open Bidding (COB)
following the conclusion of Panhellenic Primary Recruitment 2023:
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Delta Pi
Delta Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Kappa

Pi Phi and AOII are strong chapters at Bama and nationally. They both did a great job during recruitment and made the full quota, and then some. I think this is misleading for both sororities. They might not participate in COB. They don't need to do. It is an option, and the sororities listed their numbers. The chapter total from upperclassmen not returning was only 4 away for AOII and 5 for Pi Phi (I think). They are both doing very well on campus and nationally. Sororities pick up girls all the time. COB is not always about recruitment. You can make the full quota and then need to pick up a few girls to start the fall with full chapter numbers, especially with surprises from a handful of upperclassmen girls not returning and having to change quota numbers at the last minute. If so, they would have increased their quota numbers by a few and avoided the situation. They both easily made quota. This was about a small shortfall in chapter numbers due to upperclassmen graduating or not returning. They are just too strong to be a part of COB. Those are just my thoughts. Also, they will retain so many more girls than some others.

In what way is APhi strong? Or as strong as PiPhi, ADPi, or AOPi? Let’s visit last year’s reality:
Retention: Actives returning for fall 2022 recruitment
PiPhi 311
ADPi 305
AOPi 308
APhi 238 <what happened???
Recrutiment: New members fall 2022
PiPhi 135 NM GPA 3.54 N/E for COB
ADPi 135 NM GPA 3.30 Eligible for COB
AOPi 132 NM GPA 3.33 Eligible for COB
APhi 204 NM GPA 2.92 Eligible for COB (still!)
Spring 2023 COB:
PiPhi N/E for COB
ADPi COB 6 with NM GPA 3.55
AOPi COB 5 with GPA 3.45
APhi COB 30 with NM GPA of 2.64 <<really?
Spring 2023 end: total membership/new members, year total:
PiPhi 416 / 135
ADPi 392 / 141
AOPi 426 / 137
APhi 414 / 234
APhi replaced over half their house and with nm who were largely grade risks. I don’t see strength in these numbers, I see turnover, and nothing even amazing about the stats of the replacements. This is the first time ever APhi has not been on the COB list. Will this year be different?

The problem that Piphi has is that several groups that Piphi considers beneath them got off the cob list: Zeta, Gphi, Dz, and Aphi - while they qualified to cob for the 1st time in a long time joining Adpi and a few others including the new sorority who is getting their house built.
The trend appears to be Zeta, Aphi, Gphi, Dz up and Piphi down.

AOII had 143 pledges, who looked amazing. Why would they COB? They had another great rush! They have been killing it since 2019 when their new house opened the year before. I am assuming it is for chapter totals because I think every sorority on campus made quota PLUS except for SK and Theta.

ADIi lost a lot of members from fall 22 to spring 23. They are one of the smaller chapters at ua.
