cuts for not having rec letter
by: lettersWhich houses would be most likely to cut you early on if you don’t have a rec letter? How much weight do they really hold?
#1by: For my house…
My house used to demand a recommendation letter for us to extend a bid to a PNM. That meant that if we loved a girl and she didn’t have a recommendation, we had to schedule time for her to meet an alumnae in the house to write a rec for her before pref night. That is no longer the case. However, it might still be the case for other houses needing a rec from someone in order to extend a bid. When you have over 2500 girls going for 150 spots per house, anything to help you stand out more helps.
#2by: OR will cut you
KKG, KD, XO, DDD, and AXO will cut you if you do not have a letter of recommendation. Maybe AGD but your high grades could avoid that. All of these houses see so many Bama chapter legacies go through every year that they have to make grade and connection cuts. It's the truth.
NR is more forgiving because the Southern towns that many PNMs still come from don't have a bunch of moms, grandmas, aunts, friends and classmates that came from the Bama chapter of a NR house.

I’m about to be a sophomore in an old row house I had recs for, but during rush I only had recs for AGD, KKG, KD, and XO. I still got invited back for sisterhood to AXO, DDD, and PM without recs. This is not super typical at all but my rush experience was largely based on my stats. Personally, I’m from a large metropolitan area in the south, have decent grades, good reputation, and good involvement. I also have friends that only had recs for one or two houses and still got their full lists back everyday. It definitely is a bigger deal to help you stand out (ESPECIALLY OR) but sororities look at your high school stats before recs become a factor.

I can say for certain that AXO and XO require recs by preference in order to extend a bid, as stated in their bylaws. If you really stand out you may not be cut immediately and they’ll get an alumna/in AXO’s case their collegiate recruitment information board to write you a letter (which you’d likely never know happened) in order to extend a bid if they really want to.

IDK who the hell you are, but having a pnm meet with an alum during rush would never happen because it would be an enormous rush infraction. That has been the case for decades.
