Gpa for sorority’s

by:

I have a 3.1 and I really would like to rush. I know I’ll probably get cut from some but do I have any chances in getting a bid from any house? I know gpa is a factor when rushing. I had a lot of things happen in my personal life my junior year that caused me to go online and I really struggled and it effected my gpa. I just don’t know if I should even try to rush or if it’s pointless at that point.

There are a couple of houses that will probably take you. Most have a certain GPA requirement held by nationals.

As long as sweet and cute you’ll prob be fine. I had a 3.1, didn’t get cut from a single house, and went old row. Just try and emulate the energy of the house you want and be social

What year did you rush? Did you already have connections in houses? Thanks for sharing your perspective and personal experience.

Hi, yeah I’m happy to answer any questions. I rushed this year and had some kinda distant family connections in my house, but full disclosure it was more than likely enough to get on their pre-rush list. I’m also from a major city in the south, went to a private school, and had a decent reputation in hs which I’m assuming all helped as well. While I did have some connections to the house I chose, there were other houses I felt I could’ve ended up at where I had no connection at all.

3.1 and not getting cut from any house is a complete lie. There are several houses with mandatory cuts for those under 3.2.

That post was from a troll. If you have a 3.1 and no personal connections to any house, your options are most likely going to be SK, Theta, and maybe GPB, DZ or Alpha Phi (if you have a “stripper” vibe).

Not a troll lol… just had good high school extracurriculars (class president, soccer, volunteering), rly good recs, from the south, good test scores, and I’m social… every house will absolutely take lower gpa’s u just have to be able to compensate for it

First, your list is outdated. My house’s minimum GPA is higher than what’s on your list.

Second, that list is the BARE MINIMUM GPA each house’s nationals will allow them to take. Except for the bottom houses, most houses actually cut off GPA is significantly higher than those.

I recommend pnms look at each house’s current average GPA. That’s the GPA they expect from their girls and what they’re actually looking for. If a house’s current average GPA is 3.7 it will be extremely hard for you to get a bid there if your high school GPA is lower than that.

This list is taken from the UA Panhellenic website for fall 2022 rush. How is it outdated?

These are the "recommended" requirements and not the only deciding factor.

This might be what is in Greek Chic, but I can promise you most houses have a higher minimum GPA. With a 3.1, you will be cut from all except SK, GPHI, Theta and Aphi. I promise you. Perhaps you can be happy in one of these houses. Do not get your hopes up for the others.

Those “recommended” GPAs aren’t even right. Add “.5” to everyone of those recommended GPAs to get even close to the actual minimum. The only houses that are exceptions to this are SK, Theta, GPhi and Alpha Phi.

I had a low gpa as a transferring sophomore and rushed this year. I only had 3 houses on my first day- gphi, Theta, and SK so I dropped. I want to try cob but don’t know if it’s worth it :/

You can also be dropped or overlooked with an insanely high gpa too. Maybe you don't have connections, maybe you did not get on the houses radar, or maybe they assume with your gpa you will go elsewhere. If you want to be in a sorority you need to try.

Anyone who tells you that you will have a good rush if you have under a 3.5 GPA is lying.

Over 4.0: you’ll have a great rush
3.8-3.99: you’ll have a really good rush
3.6-3.79: you’ll have a good rush
3.5 - 3.59: you’ll have a decent rush
3.3 - 3.49: I wish the best for you
3.2 - 3.29: at least you tried
Under 3.19: don’t waste your time or money. Rush will not be kind to you and there will be a lot of tears.
