It’s iffy to even wear a romper during open house round, which is the most casual besides philanthropy. Open House is virtual this year and a romper is 100% too casual for sisterhood or preference.

Why can’t you wear one? Are day dresses ok?

Strapless anything is never a good idea because there is not a woman alive who can go without having to yank it up now and then, and that's not flattering or presenting your very best. This is when it counts; save the strapless for another time.

She can wear whatever she wants and then she can enjoy being dropped by every house or ending up in a terrible one.

We're going to assume by that answer that you're a frat boy. Anyway, 'the girl' came on here and asked her honest question and got honest answers. But you are absolutely right - a PNM can wear whatever she wants! It's all up to her! And she will be living with the result of the impression she makes on the chapters when they decide to invite her back. Or not. After every round, every active weighs in on the question "would I want to see that wearing my letters?"

Go on Green Chic, it tells you what to wear and not to wear

Save it for a date night or a game day. Get 2-4 nice dresses for recruitment. You can wear the same dress through sisterhood to different houses on different days- just use Febreeze. You’re welcome.

Is one shoulder okay? It’s a thick strap but I have a backup dress

Yes, a one shoulder is a great option for pref! Remember, not short or tight...

I don’t think these girls coming from outside the South understand what rush is like at an SEC school. The houses pick you. You do not have a say in it until pref, and even then you have two choices in front of you and you are just putting them in your order of preference. The easiest way to get dropped by every house is to show up to rush in clothes that are too short, too tight and too revealing. You have one shot to make a good first impression on these houses. Don’t blow it.

I think the issue is that you're going to need to focus on your conversations and what the vibe is like with each house, and you don't want to waste your energy worrying about whether your strapless top is up or not or if you're having a "wardrobe malfunction". You want to be as calm and confident as you can, not busy fiddling with your clothes all day. That can be distracting to the actives as well if you're always pulling your top up during convos instead of being completely engaged. There are plenty of cute and cool outfits (sleeveless or one-strap) out there that you can wear instead. So it's not a question of being conservative versus stylish but that of being as focused as possible and not being worried about your outfit all day. If you can find a strapless outfit that is 100% secure, good for you, but that's a rare find. Better to safe that outfit for parties or casual events that are not as stressful as recruitment.

Doesn't always work considering Alabama heat and humidity and perspiration.

I'd steer clear of strapless simply for comfort. You'll be stressed enough during rush already, the last thing you need is to be worried about adjusting your clothes
