Suicide bid?????

It means that you write down just one sorority on your card, instead of ranking both of them (that you preffed). It's very risky because if you don't match, then you could be left with nothing. But, girls suicide if they are absolutely certain that they would not accept a bid from one of the two. But you may not get your first choice either. It's a gamble and Panhellenic advises against it.

Never a good idea. If you have 2 pref parties but only list one house you have suicided. If you bid match to first choice all good but if you don’t you are not eligible for a quota addition. In that situation you are bidless. I believe that also makes you ineligible for a snap or cob but not 100 percent on that. You need to be 100 percent certain you would not be happy with second house and 100 percent ok with no bid. After going through all of this it is very risky. Girls do it ever year because they are so sure they will get top choice and every year girls are disappointed.

If you went to 2 pref parties but only list one - that is suiciding. DON'T DO IT.

Even if you absolutely don't want the other house, you will get rewarded for listing it and actually have a BETTER chance of getting your top house because of how the system works.

Only listing one house will NOT improve your chances and will only hurt you because you get rewarded for "maximizing your options".

God forbid you do get that other house you don't want, I highly suggest you give it a shot first and drop if you hate it but you can also just not accept the bid and rush again next year.

Don't do it. I'm telling you it happens every year that girls are ~shocked~ when they end up with zero bid because they suicided.. LIST BOTH HOUSES (if you have 2)

Just want to make one thing clear for confused PNMs. If you go to one party for pref, it's not considered a "suicide bid" to list only that one. I know some PNM out there with one chapter will read this and be confused so wanted to clarify!

Don't suicide. Don't politely decline any house. Rank your houses and let the process work. If you get your preferred house, great. If you get the other house, you have some work to do. Out of all the houses you went to this week, that's the only house that liked you enough to give you a bid. Feel special. They love you for you! Now is the time for you to forget about all the other houses you fell in love with earlier and go to work on YOUR house. Maybe they're not good conversationalists. How can you help? Maybe they're not that good at makeup or outfits. How can you help? Maybe their grades aren't up to yours. How can you help? Haven't met any of "your people" in the house? Spend lots of time there. I guarantee that you will find them. Out of 400 girls, I guarantee they're there. Afraid that other people will pity or make fun of you for your house? Talk them up! Tell everyone why you chose this house. Convince everything that they're better than the gossip said they were.

Also, know that all girls will feel let down after recruitment is over. The older girls go back to their studies and their friends. Cliques form in the pc. Someone feels left out or like they don't fit in. This happens in EVERY SORORITY. Even the one you loved the most. You can't possibly get to know everything about them during recruitment.

So your house is not the #1 house now. It's up to you to make sure they will be by the time you graduate.

Don't do it. It's called suicide bidding for a reason.

The ONLY perk of suicide bidding is you don't have nervousness before opening your bid because you know who it's to. That's it. Never saw the point in it.
