I know they’re new but I loved the conversation I had with my girl during philanthropy

SK is up and coming as a new chapter and so they will have lots of enthusiasm and such. If you are open to meeting lots of new people from all over, then they are a good choice.

Let me add something. The thing about SK will be that girls that are there will be into it. So many pnms go through recruitment just to get a bid to certain houses and then if they get dropped from those houses they drop out of recruitment. Other pnms go to houses just to get the social life, the parties and events. Those PNMs would not want SK because it is new. What happens in the “top houses” is a lot of pnms just use it for parties and don’t care about anything else or building sisterhood. Just sayin.

Since no one is going to be honest here, a ton of girls joined SK and dropped last year. They have a ton of drama inside the house BECAUSE they’re new and are still figuring things out. Your PC will be full of girls who did not want SK, got SK, and are sad. If you like SK, join and try to figure things out, but all these posts above talking about SK being so tight knit and wonderful just aren’t true.

Is Sigma Kappa actually good nationally though? I swear I don’t hear about them being at most big schools and they don’t seem to have any “iconic” chapters anywhere in the country except maybe Arizona where they’re still not top. I think they’re a great up and coming sisterhood here but I’m confused by comments about their nationals being strong

honestly not really, they’re pretty strong in the west but not really anywhere else, and if you look at a list of their chapters most of them are dormant and a lot of the ones that aren’t are struggling. even this current chapter has been shut down twice before.

Some big 10 schools have good SK chapters like penn state. At University of Delaware they’re a top house (my brother went there).

They're mid/upper mid at UGA, Michigan, NC State, and WVU. They're mid/lower mid (and wild af) at Auburn.

They do well in the Midwest. All their chapters in Michigan (UM, Michigan state, GVSU, CMU,WMU, EMU) are all considered mid-top to top tier. They also have a pretty good following in the west and east coast - their most popular chapter is at university of Arizona. (They have a ton of good chapters in Cali) Honestly, the only place they aren’t as big is the south but their nationals have really been expanding down here for a few years now. (My sister was one and I once asked her this same question)

At the “truth” person in this comment, obviously got their info from Wikipedia because they actually used the term “dormant”. For whatever reason, SK’s wiki has EVERY chapter they ever had listed on there (active or not) but ALL sororities will have lists like that, they just don’t share it.
Like almost all greek life, there was a pretty big purge of sororities/fraternities dropping a lot of their chapters between the 90s-00s. After the insane 80s greek life, greek life needed to start restructuring. SK was one of those Sororities that decided they were going to focus on rebranding and creating more structured base, so they did cut a lot of their chapters but to help grow their stronger chapters.
Past decade they’ve been expanding like crazy and added a whole lot for chapters and barely losing any. Their nationals is very strong and you will see a lot more SK in the future.

I’m friends with a member of sk exec and while there is some drama, it’s from the girls that don’t want to be there, and they end up leaving. All houses have that. Those that truly want to be there pour all their have into it and they have a really strong sisterhood and seem to have lots of friends in other houses as well. You can either join a sorority you don’t really love just because it is super popular and you want the “Status” or you can join one you really love and in 20 years look back at it thriving and say I BUILT THAT. That’s what drives my friend and I think that is a big draw to some girls. Follow your heart. There’s room for everyone here.

There is no weak choice at bama. Pick the house you feel most comfortable in and you will have a great 4 years. Choose based on how long they’ve been here and maybe not.

Sk is a great house, just like any others on campus. They are involved and love being a part of Greek life and if you feel like that is the fit for you then go for it! Good luck

I think it would be cool to help with the planning of the mansion. That’s real world experience. Plus SK has the best colors.

I know that they will be asking some of their actives (probably the interior design/architecture ones) to help with ideas for the new house once they can break ground and that sounds so exciting

I’m mad jealous of their colors (I’m one of the red houses and it’s just too harsh 😩) very feminine and cool.

Panhellenic and the university wouldn’t have let them on campus if they didn’t have plans to build in the next few years. Especially with their chapter size growing it probably won’t be much longer

Being a new chapter can be challenging but it seems like they are doing well. And the girls in Sk seem sweet.

There’s definitely worse places to end up, like personally I’d take SK over Alpha Phi lol
