Suggested GPA for each house

by:

AXO - 3.4
ADPI - 3.3
AGD - 3.4
AOPI - 3.2
APHI - 3.0
XO - 3.3
DDD - 3.2
DG - 3.2
DZ - 3.4
GPHI - 3.1
KAT - 3.2
KD - 3.2
KKG - 3.3
PI PHI - 3.3
PHI MU - 3.3
SDT - 2.75
SK - 3.0
ZTA - 3.2

These are suggested GPAs for each house, this is specific to UA. Most nationals simply require a 2.75 or 3.0 to give a bid. But since UA is so competitive, these chapters have higher standards. It all depends on the PNM, every house takes grade risks but it depends on her resume, reputation, activities, connections, etc. It depends on what the house is willing to compromise GPA for (in Zeta and alpha phi, they’re willing to compromise GPA for looks, etc). Most cuts job IWT are made based on GPA, if you make it past IWT with a low GPA and still have some of these houses back, I would say you’re safe and you won’t be judged on GPA anymore after that.

thanks for posting this! do you have any idea what the sororities gpa requirements are for upperclassmen?

By: cool!

upperclassmen only have to have the minimum GPA that actives are required to have (although the higher the better obviously) I don’t know the exact number and I’m sure it’s different for each house, but I know it’s lower than the high school gpa requirement

Once you are active there is a minimum gpa required? Is that to be able to go to date parties, chapter stuff and recruitment? Do they put you on probation for bad grades?

Is there ever a gpa that gets you thrown out of the sorority or just probation and fines? How many actives get put on probation on average for grades? I’m just surprised that they are so strict about who they invite to join and then don’t seem to care after that. Like they just wants large pc and money, not sisterhood.

they do care, not sure how you got the impression that they don’t. Every house has mandatory study hours, and if you don’t complete them there are punishments. If you get a low gpa one semester you are usually put on probation and can’t go to any date parties or swaps. The next semester if your gpa doesn’t meet the minimum your chapter will usually decide to either keep you on probation or dismiss you from the chapter. Chapters don’t release the numbers on how many members are on academic probation, but because the majority of actives care about grades and keeping their house average high, it’s usually not too much of an issue

Thanks for explaining that! I’m just stressed out thinking about rushing, pledging and then taking a heavy course load my first semester at Bama. I’d hate to join and then bring my sisters house gpa down. Is the house required gpa similar to what they take at rush? Or is like below a 2.4 and you can’t go to date parties/swaps or help put with recruitment?

You aren’t even in a house yet. Go through recruitment, get a bid, and study problem solved

The house will work with you to give you study hours, set you up with sisters in your classes that can help tutor you or help you study, etc. if your gpa starts to drop and you get put on academic probation. They won’t just immediately kick you out after one bad semester as long as you’re showing improvement. You would need to get below the gpa requirement over several semesters before they would drop you. But instead of focusing on the minimum that you can possibly get to stay in the sorority, focus on keeping it as high as possible so you won’t have to worry about that!

I plan to keep as high a gpa as possible! I’m just concerned since a super smart girl I know who went to Bama on pres scholarship lost it for partying too much with her sorority. I was told by her they didn’t care about her 1.9, they just wanted her money. Just trying to get into a grade mindful sorority while still planning to have fun with my new sisters!

Yeeaahh idk what house she was in, but I could probably guess. My house wouldn’t be ok with that. Being “smart” doesn’t matter if you make poor choices and don’t study. It’s really not that hard to keep a healthy balance of school and partying as long as you keep your priorities straight and plan ahead

There is a decent amount of girls who only care about getting into a sorority and don’t care if they lose their scholarship since mommy & daddy are paying. Those girls don’t last in the upper and mid houses. Most houses wouldn’t let a girl below a 2.0 stay active. If you can’t get above a 2.0 at Bama maybe you shouldn’t be in a sorority.

Many houses have study hours to help their members keep a good GPA, but ultimately you are responsible for yourself and your grades. You have to be disciplined, which may involve not going to a sorority party. It's all about balancing your time and obligations.
