Theta National did away with Legacy Status

by: wow

Theta National just announced that Theta will no longer offer any preferential treatment to legacies. All PMNs will be treated the same and legacies will have to earn their spot in pledge classes like every other PMN.

Not a good precedent tbh. Too much giving in lately.

Ha, giving in to what? Alums have been debating this for decades because it honestly is so problematic. The argument that the swell in chapter members over the decades produced more legacies than when membership was selective and restrictive is just truthful but hard for some to accept.

It was problematic. That's why we've upped the number of houses and fostered competition among chapters. Legacy-membership without leeway is a a problem, but doing away with it entirely is a bigger one. Selective and restrictive as it may be, it's still important.

It's not only tradition, it's what makes this school's GL one of the most desirable in the country. That goes away when we capitulate to the my-feelings-matter crowd. I'm not gonna want a place that abandons its traditions outright and eliminates the legacy pipeline.

Well just about every sorority legacy clause implies "nothing is guaranteed." This is not news really.
