not being greek

Coming from someone who was scared of this but tried it knowing I could still rush spring or the next fall. You can still make friends and have fun but you will feel left out of A LOT and like you’re missing the best part

I didn’t rush in the fall and ended up COBing into my house in the spring my first year on campus. There are plenty of people who never join greek life and have a great college experience but I really felt like I was missing something. Personally I had a hard time making friends in the fall, and because I was pre-med I was also spending pretty much all of my time studying and had almost no social like. My grades were great but college is about more than grades. Joining my chapter forced me to meet people and let myself have fun in college. And I honestly have met girls who are going to be my friends for life, and I never would have traded my experience for anything else. No one can make the decision about whether greek life will be worth it for you or not except for yourself. If you’re worried about it know that you can always join in the spring or rush next fall and you won’t miss too much. It might be harder to get bids for certain houses but honestly despite all of the negative things you read on here the experience is pretty much the same in all the houses!

Girls don’t need to to go to parties and have a good time

certain (traditional/southern) fraternities won’t associate with you& invite you around if you don’t have letters and some boys won’t if you’re bottom tier out of some sense of pride

i find this dumb but it does happen
