by: pls answerok what is the deal with alpha phi? is it truly as horrible as people on here make it seem. I can honestly say that it’s in my top 5 houses i’d like to be in but it gets so much hate on here which makes me feel bad. is there something bad i’m not noticing about them? i truly am interested in the sorority because i like the philanthropy and they look like they have a good sisterhood but who even knows anymore. alpha phi is arguably one of the most popular sororities nationally, and definitely has that stereotype surrounding it but i feel like the reputation it has at alabama does not match its reputation elsewhere. (for example: university of arizona alpha phi is their top and most sought after house) someone lmk i’m curious why it’s so frowned upon and why people on here say the only people on campus that like alpha phi are alpha phi girls....

It’s bc they recruit based on looks only as a national policy. Look up the university of Michigan scandal that revealed how their national offices behaves. SEC schools yes of course want cute girls to join our chapters but we also recruit based on other important things that make a girl well rounded like grades, activities, leadership potential, volunteerism...while alpha phi nationally only recruits girls who will look good in Instagram.

This house is very superficial and there is a divided sisterhood. the select few pretty girls get treated the best, always posted on social media and that group is very close. but the rest kinda fade into the background which is sad. they also COB almost anybody because they need the numbers. lowest in grades, not the best involvement and their main philanthropy event is just a week of them hanging out with the fraternities. definitely well liked by frats but not respected by anybody on campus. and don’t get me started on them buying all those instagram followers. would not reccomend

I ended up prefing aphi this past year and I really loved them all the way thru rush. Although I loved aphi thru the process I am glad I didn’t end up in that house. Everyone seems pretty cliche and there is a noticeable popular group and outside of that group I never see or hear of any other girls. I’m pretty positive they had all of their swaps taken away due to poor behavior at a anti hazing event. They also have the worst grades on campus and not the best reputation around campus. Although I have quite a few friends in that house and loved them all the way thru recruitment I’m glad I accepted a bid from another house.

The word that comes to mind for Alpha Phi (not just at bama, but nationally too) is fake. And very self centered. Idk I feel like there are houses at Bama that have much more wholesome national reputations (axo, xo, aopi, adpi, pi phi just to name a few). I know when you're 18 being in the pretty/popular sorority seems like the greatest thing in the world, I was also very interested in aphi when I went through rush, but looking back I am so glad to be in a national organization that values having lots of different types of girls, personality and looks-wise and cares more about sisterhood, grades, and involvement than Instagram.

My advice would be to wait until rush and form your own opinion. Everyone on this thread has had different experiences with Aphi, and yours will be different too. Talk to the actives in the house during rush and ask them about their experience, not some website that is known for bashing other houses. Take everything that is said here with a grain of salt.

The problem with Alpha Phi is obvious after you get here and get to know the girls. Their nationals has gotten a lot of unfavorable press about the guidelines they have for which girls get bids. They look exclusively at looks. This makes the house kind of an uncomfortable place to live. They are last in grades, many have questionable reputations, they're not active, and don't have connections like most of the other houses.
Their nationals spends a lot of money advertising them and that's why you think they have a good reputation. But the girls who live there don't like it much.
Not to be mean. Just answering your question.
