What house surprised you during recruitment?
by: go greekSince pnms won’t actually get to visit all the houses this year, I thought it might be fun to share some stories of houses that we thought we were going to love/hate before recruitment that ended up really surprising us and why. I’ll start: I went into recruitment wanting to go Phi Mu. Loved their house and their social media and I thought I would fit in. The girl I talked to showed no interest in me and only asked condescending questions about my parents wealth and the type of car I drove. I dropped them after IWT. No tea no shade, just wasn’t the right fit for me :)

I know after going through the houses, a lot of girls in my rho chi group were pleasantly surprised by gphi, dg, and aopi. No one was like “wow they’re my fav now” but a lot of people expected them to be bad and they were actually a lot better and had good conversations there.

I really thought I wanted AXO, but they seemed fake to me by third round. I really wanted a more genuine group of girls than I was paired with, so I preffed AGD and XO and couldn’t be happier! AXO is a fab house, but it just wasn’t for me, and I’m so glad I listened to my heart. Every girl deserves to make their own choice, so don’t let alums and parents influence your decision too much. Over 1/2 of the houses at Bama would be top houses on any campus in US, so don’t worry about ranks too much and focus on your heart!

Ok so you’re clearly a phi mu. It doesn’t really matter if it’s not “allowed” lots of houses do this. I had a really similar experience in a different house. I was asked about my parents and wealth and then the girl literally ended up saying “well idk what else to talk about now” and ignoring me for the rest of the party. It was super awkward and made me really uncomfortable. It does happen even though it isn’t supposed to, but it’s mainly only in certain houses

This is not me trying to put any house down and it’s also going to be a very unpopular opinion but these were the houses that didn’t surprise me/I thought they would: Agd, Adpi, Chi O, Tri Delt, Phi Mu, and Theta
I was bored at these houses during recruitment and couldn’t remember the conversations
Houses that did surprise me: Aphi, Aopi, Pi phi, Dg, Axo, Kappa and Zeta
I didn’t expect to like these houses as much as I did during recruitment and I still remember conversations in these houses :)

I think the person who responded very rudely to the alum got it deleted because someone came and roasted them pretty good for that response😂
