siblings in sororities

by:

If a PNM has a sister who's an active in a sorority at bama are they an automatic shoo-in for a bid from that sorority? I've seen a good amount of girls rushing this year w siblings in greek life and it makes me scared that I don't have a connection like that...

most likely yes. I had a sibling in my house last year and I definitely got special treatment during rush not gonna lie. Spoke to the president and all recruitment chairs during every round and ended up going that house

If you want your sisters house it’s great bc you get special treatment all rush and you’re almost 100% a shoo-in. If you don’t want your sisters houses, it sucks bc a ton of houses WILL drop you bc of your older sister/thinking you’ll go your legacy house.

this is important ! I got dropped by so many houses I honestly think would’ve been a good fit for me because I was an in house legacy.

The same thing happened to me, a house dirty rushed me all summer, and I wanted them sooooo bad: they asked about my family and I mentioned my older sister was at Bama and they dropped me bc of it. It really sucks and I still think about how different my freshman year experience would’ve been had I gotten that house.

Yes you will automatically have a spot there. They won’t cut you unless you have a really bad gpa or are a questionable rep. Half of Phi Mu’s pledge class last year had sisters in the house

It’s not a 100% guarantee, in the past few years my house has cut a few girls with sisters in house, but one had a huge attitude problem and the other girl’s older sister caused a lot of trouble. If you have a good attitude and your sister is a good member there shouldn’t be a problem.

If you want the best chance, HIDE the fact you are in house legacy to other sororities. Never mention it, and show excitement towards every single house you go to, not just your favorites.

It’ll be on her recs. The other houses will know.

My little sister is going through recruitment and I told her to tell the other houses she is keeping an open mind and would love to be in any house. I want her to have good chances at other houses if she decides not to join mine(:

Coming from experience, 2 houses asked if I had siblings, then asked how old, etc. They knew i was an in house and they were trying to pry info (how close we are/random things). It sucks but you WILL get dropped by some of your favorite houses right off the bat. Unless you are a legacy at a bottom tier house and an upper tier house is interested in you

Members are definitely made aware of legacies and you’ll get special treatment (talk to the best girls, talk to president/exec) A second active may also join your convo, so you’ll talk to more actives in comparison to other pnms. Sororities do this so girls they like can get more votes.
