Historically Top Houses Slipping?

Other old row houses have been much more open to accepting the best OOS girls which keeps them at the top of grades and involvement. KD was late to the party on that one and has suffered for it. Now kappa wasn’t great about it either but kappa’s also a huge national name which helps them a ton.

That said I think most girls in the running are either KD/kappa types or alpha gam/alpha chi types. The super competitive, grade focused girls aren’t going to be drawn to KD anymore.

It’s because 1/2 of the members are OOS. If 1/2 of the house isn’t great, than it’s no longer a top house. KD only focuses on legacies and in-state girls from bham, Mobile, and Montgomery. They keep losing a lot of girls to the other houses because PNMs see through them. Also, many of their members are rude and they have some in house sisterhood problems (I’m from mobile so trust me I know). I prefed Kappa, AGD, and XO over them, so I get what a lot of PNMs think of them, even though I was rushed super hard by KD. Kappa still gets some cool oos girls, but kappa is even more party and fun than it was in the 80s. So, a lot of academic girls aren’t as in to kappa as they are into AXO, AGD, and XO.

To me KD’s problem is how apathetic they are to all of the fun events that most other houses participate in. They don’t do hardly anything for Homecoming, Greek Week, etc. I think the girls in KD that would love to be more involved just take a back seat to the more vocal older girls and wish they’d pledged elsewhere.

The most outgoing, involved, achievement focused girls continue to go AXO, AGD and XO. PM appeals to the fashion/makeup/superficial crowd.

KKG and DDD appeal to the girls that aren’t quite as smart/involved and really want to party.

That leaves KD with nothing that really sets them apart besides apathy. They only appeal to one or two fraternities whereas the rest of the Old Row sororities are really sought after by a lot more of the fraternities.

So during rush KD doesn’t have more than maybe 30 girls they really want that also really want them. That leaves a huge void to fill during rush which is why they are known for taking “filler girls” and sometimes having to give snap bids.

We see you AXO and ChiO.

You “heard of a friend’s daughter”.....ok mom go back to FB. I’m embarrassed for you that you are posting on GR. I’m pretty sure most of the negative sorority posts are people over 40 with no life.

KD is a great old chapter here- old being key. Many cute girls still pledge, mainly bc of the past status of KD, being a legacy, or having friends in the chapter. The above poster is right about most of the oos kds being fillers. In rush, which thankfully girls won’t have to endure at kd, kd swarms the girls they want and make the others feel like crap. Yes, I experienced that. They wanted me, but they didn’t WANT me. I was not cut by them and went all the way to the end. I placed them 3rd. (Yes, there were 3 rankings up to 3 years ago). \n\n\n\n\n

I feel like this is a post against KD and I’m not saying they are wrong- it’s all true. But some of the other sororities listed aren’t without problems. It’s really important to know where you fit in! In my opinion, kappa is an old sorority here with strong alumni, but you won’t be as happy there if you don’t like to party and like to participate in Greek events. That’s just not what they do. If you want to argue this, just pull up the participation in homecoming, Greek week, and Derby Days for KD and Kappa. Again- maybe that’s not your thing... then you’ll like those.

Tri Delt is pretty apathetic too but not as much as those. Lots of infighting in ddd and kd, not so much in kappa. \n\n\n\n\n

Over half of PNMs are out of state. OR houses need to either keep up or get out of the way.

All these OR houses still get their share of top PNMs. For the top OR houses, it depends where a PNM wants to fall between academics and party.

Most interested in grades and less interested in partying tend to go AGD and AXO

Most interested in having a mix between involvement and social tend to go DDD and XO. More OOS in DDD except more Mississippi in XO

Most interested in social or staying with high school friends tend to go KKG and KD
