The truth on AOII and Theta
by: G.S.Are they competitive more than given credit on this site? People are always ranking them in the last tier but I have heard low grades can get you cut from Theta and not having a rec and good background can shut you out of AOII. Is it unheard of for girls to pref at either Theta and AOII and have an Old Row house also to choose from?

Can't speak to pref, I can't remember but I will say that AOPi and Theta get an unnecessarily bad reputation. Truly, rankings below the Top 3 (or utter bottom, SK due to them being new) do not matter that much.
Theta is more alternative than most of the sororities and draws a certain type of person. They have great events and a great national organization. It's largely because Theta bucks the traditions/systems and is more outspoken that they're often decried for being a terrible sorority. The reality is that Theta is full of strong women and a strong culture.
AOPi seems to not be too concerned about their reputation. They play it safe, host solid events, and just kind of ride in the middle-of-the-pack. The AOPi's I know love their sorority and stay involved. They're quiet and keep to themselves, and that's a strength.
If anything, the girls I know who obsessed over rankings and tried to fake their way into the best sorority they can get often ended up being sorely disappointed with their experience. Go into rush open to most of the houses (it's OK to know which ones you won't like) and be sure to make realistic decisions about where you fit in best. Come junior year, you won't care which fraternities "like" your sorority or if all of your sisters are gorgeous. Make a decision for four years, not just this year.

All houses (except maybe sk since they’re still trying to get membership up, totally not their fault) can and do cut pnms and imo no house should be considered a fallback house or a safe option. These 2 houses have gpa cutoffs and are looking for pnms that will fit in to their sisterhood just like every other house. You’re absolutely not guaranteed a bid from any house, including these ones

I have lots of friends in both AOII and theta and I am actually so dang excited to see how they do in rush this year. AOII has stepped up their social media/trendy game a ton, and with everything going on in the world I think the fact that they are genuine girls and have a decent amount of diversity will really help them, and Theta had a good PC last year. I think this could potentially be a very good year for both of them.
