to bamagreek, if you take out LXA, pi kapp, and loose the numbers then you have the top fraternities on campus. not a terrible job.

to "Question": if you're cool and are not afraid to put yourself out there you almost always end up in a good fraternity (old row or new row). every old row fraternity bids in Fall rush so anyone that tell you their bid lists are complete before fall doesnt know what they're talking about. i am in an old row fraternity and a few of my plege brothers were kids who only rushed in the fall.

again, we have a lot of great fraternities here and after freshman year most people dont give a crap about any of the rivalries or BS, by soph year everyone is only conserned with having a good time

Hey guys,

I'm a northerner who's going to be a freshman at Bama next year. I know a few people who currently go to Bama, but all of which are girls so its not exactly helping me with fraternity connections.

Obviously being a northerner without any good connections completely ruins my chances of going old row, but do you think I could still get a good new row bid? I really liked Pike, Sigma Chi, Theta Chi, and Beta when I went down for preview day.

Do you think I could get a bid from one of these 4 strictly doing just fall rush?

being a northerner will put you at a disadvantage but i know plaenty of kids in great houses who are from the north. ther's even a DKE from pennsylvania.

As far as the ones you listed,I know pike has a good amount of kids from the north (mostly chicago). the others may have some but im not really sure.

as far as fall rush. Getting a bid from a good fraternity is always much harder when you only do fall rush. the good fraternitys already have a large pledge class by the time summer is over so if you dont really stand out during fall rush your chances are very slim at best. But like i have said before on this page every single fraterity bid kids from fall rush last year so it's not impossible

If there is anyway you can make it down to tuscaloosa this summer you should contact a few of the houses rush chairs and see if they invite you to any of the events. going to a couple events in summer can make all the difference as long as you put yourself out there

as many as you can. obviously there is not a set number of times that you go in order to recieve a bid. each fraternity will have at least 3 rush events over the summer, so the more you go to the better your chances.you could get a bid as early as your 2nd time(not likley) or not at all, it depends on how they feel about you .

the important thing is geting there and meeting these guys. dont be afraid to put yourself out there. remember, these guuys were all rushees once too and since these will be rush events dont be afaraid to introduce yourself to ANYONE, thats what they're there for to meet guys like YOU

You are very wise and I like the fraternities you liked on preview day (theta chi,pike, sigma chi & beta). All four of them have guys from all over the country and are truly representive of a true fraternity vs one that only recruits from southern Alabama. I think you visit as much as possible, send emails,show interest and explain your limitations in traveling and net you will get a bid from one of them in the fall. It is true that most of the bids are given out over the spring and summer but they do still give them early,early in the fall. Good luck and great choices.

The best at Bama are the following:

New row: theta chi,sigma chi & pike
old row: DKE,SAE, KA

It's your personal preference of where you feel the most comfortable.

New ROw: Theta Chi, Sigma Chi, Pike, Beta
Old Row: DKE, SAE, KA
(im not an old row fan so its hard to really say anything about them but give the three i mention a try if you are into it)

Definetly look around as we have 30 fraternities and there's one for everybody. It's a known fact who rank in the top 10 and each of them have their positive and negatives and they all have one thing everyone makes fun of them for whether if it's true or not (I can tell you I don't think most of the bad things you hear are 100% truth). My advice is to go around a few and see for yourself where you feel you fit in. For the sake of offering a little help , I'll list the top 10 in random order. Know that there are plenty of fraternities that aren't top 10 but it doesn't mean they aren't great, good, have parties, attract girls stc.

SAE, Theta Chi, KA, DKE, Pike, Sigma Chi, Sigma Nu, Phi Gam, Beta, ATO

Some might argue to put Pi Kapoa Phi & Lamda Chi in the group too but I've been here 3 years and I think I've listed them well. Good luck and do not worry at all if you are not from the south. We talk a big game but when it comes down to it, if you are yourself, it doesn't matter
