Hey y'all. I'm going to be a freshman at Bama next year and I plan on rushing. however I won't be able to make it to a lot of the spring/summer rush events because of spring sports and a summer job. will this put me at a major disadvantage when I get down there in the fall? Will the top 10 fraternities still have bids left in the fall?

Yes, there will be spots left available for quality out-state rushees. Even though they were through actively rushing, DKE, SAE and KA all pledged guys last August. When you get in town hit the ground running. Also, New Row has some beautiful houses going up. You'll find your place but get out there and meet them.

Questioning rushees, let me enlighten you. The University of Alabama has one of the best greek systems in the United States. The friendships and hilarious, enjoyable experiences you have an opportunity to be a part of are as good as it gets. Here is what I didn't know when I pledged four years ago. 1.Don't let some negative thinking GDI talk you out of it. Many of them are privately pissed that they ain't. Not all, but many. 2.While greek life is going on, do your work!!!! I've seen too many good guys flunk out and go home. To a man they regret it. 3.During rush parties,don't get wasted. The wasted rushee is having the time of his life but all the house actives see is a staggering d-bag pulling a heave ho all over the place. This is a common rush screwup. Sip on a few, relax, enjoy yourself, put your best foot forward. 4. Dont be the tool who rushes by constantly bragging about what an incredible athlete you were in hs. 5.Don't be too enthralled by the old row big names. Thei

I'm actually in a similar situation as the fella below. I won't be able to rush very actively over the summer, but I still plan on rushing in the fall.

Personally, I'm not that interested in the top 3 (DKE, KA, SAE), but I still would like to get a bid from one of the top tiers. Will Pike, Beta, Theta Chi, Sigma Chi, Pi Kappa Phi, and Sigma Nu still have a decent amount of bids in August?

Yes, they will. But why try out for the scout team. Do not understand your thought process. You only around once, brother

University of Alabama has one of the strongest Greek communities in the nation. We boast having over 30 fraternities and have a fraternity for everyone. Top fraternities are a personal preference although it's fairly common knowledge of who ranks in the top which I'll outline below. No worries if you join one outside of this list because there are fraternities that don't make the list but doesn't mean that they aren't a great fraternity. I'll list in totally random order those generally considered amongst the best:

SAE, KA, Theta Chi, Sigma Chi, Pike, DKE, Phi Gam, Beta, Sigma Nu, and maybe throw in Pi Kappa Phi. Good luck rushees! Don't forget there's a fraternity for everyone!!' :)
