If I'm a senior in high school, and I'm interested in rushing next year, should I email the rush chair of the fraternities I'm interested in? If so, what should I say? Thanks

Typically there's a rush form on each fraternities website. Be sure to complete it of its on there. Follow up w an email or a call to the chair asking about Rush events. The fraternities start having Rush events/ parties in the Spring and into the summer months. My suggestion is to narrow your selection down to a handful that interst you and get going talking to them, getting to know their brothers and you will know if it's a good fit for you. I know my fraternity and most of the old row and the great new row (I'm in a new row) know who they want before school starts in the Fall. 99.9 % of recruitment is done over the summer. Fraternuties will host river rafting, parties, cook-outs etc and I suggest you go at as many as possible. If you are far out of state I suggest you network somehow with active brothers. If you know actives/graduates be sure to get them to put in a good word for you. Hope this helps. Bottom line, network!

Hey yall, would you recommend going to the IFC Spring Preview day on March 24th? It would be a fairly long and expensive trip for me so I'm debating if it's worth it. Did y'all go? If you didn't, do you wish you would have? What do they do there?

We went last year. For out-of-staters, i would defintely go. It's an overview of the greek system and you will meet the rush chairman of each frat and get put on their lists. In addition, you will get to tour 4 or 5 houses. Keep in mind that DKE, SAE and KA have already given out bids, but it gets your foot in the door and you can start formulating an impression of the frats and the meaning of Old Row/New Row. IFC lays it out, but its up to you to make contact and be persistent. Plan on summer school as well. Check out to below's comments also.

I'm in a top new row fraternity and didn't go to preview day last year as I was only interested in one fraternity (the one I'm in). My recommendation is if you are from out of state, and you really don't know anyone, it would be invaluable for you to attend. You get to meet Rush Chairman, get on spring & summer rush party lists and you start getting an idea of where you feel comfortable. A lot of bids are given out over Spring & Summer (both new & old row) and a few remain at the beginning of the school . The more competitive the fraternity, the fewer buds remain. I received my bid over the summer. Bottom line, can't hurt and get networking and meeting active brothers! Good luck and welcome.

I am also in a top New Row fraternity and I did not to Preview Day last year but I knew a lot of active brothers in the fraternity I rushed and received a bid from. If you know people, it's not as necessary to attend but if you don't really know anyone, I suggest you make the trip and meet all the Rush Chairs and try to network. Narrow your choice down to a few to rush. Good luck to you.
