by: SucksPnms- y’all should know that chi o does not get initiated until second semester. This means you will not be able to go out to bars and what not for all of 1st semester. Alpha chi gets initiated earlier but also does not let the freshman go out 1st semester either for some reason. And they obliviously forget to mention this during rush.

Yep most if not all Chi O chapters do this. It's a way to make sure they have good grades on the grade report - if your grades first semester suck then it doesn't get factored in to the chapter GPA.
BUT if you love Chi O during recruitment and know you could fit in there, don't let this stop you from finding a home there.

Wrong. The fall grade reports include all new members, initiated or not. You can check.

lol yeah most sororities will not “let” you go out in your first semester, but unregistered parties is more of the bigger risk factor. its doable tho, u just gotta be sneaky and not post everything you do!

It’s def not to show “respect” to chi o, it’s just their rules. Chi o doesn’t have anything to do with it

My house also doesn’t let freshmen go to bars until second semester. It ended up being a good thing because the fraternity pledges couldn’t go to bars either. So while the other freshmen girls were packing into bars outnumbering the guys 3-1 and paying for their own drinks, we all kept getting invited to hang out with the fraternity pledges at their house parties. We got to know them all a lot better and they always supplied the alcohol!

This is a reply to #6 not sure what year you are but they are realllyyy cutting down on house parties. I’m going to be a senior so we were all able to have pledge parties freshman year and that made it a lot easier but those are sadly no longer a thing. If any pledges get caught at a unregistered party they get in biggg trouble and the house will be put on probation too

^^ THIS. i rushed as a sophomore and i can tell you my friends who rushed freshman year actually went to a lot more house parties bc they used to be more lenient about it. my sorority’s nationals consider any event/party with more than 5 actives to be a “sorority event” so even posting pics at pre’s is REALLY risky. my pledge class actually got into a lot of trouble going to unregistered parties and lots got sent to standards. we cried about how all the other sororities we hang out with get to go and build better relations with frats because of it, but greek life is just much more stricter now.

No it’s chi o national policy that girls can’t be initiated until second semester bc of grades and girls transferring. It’s not changing

You’re right that it’s grade driven but it’s not because of the grade report. It’s because Chi O nationally doesn’t want to initiate a new member who hasn’t proven they can make grades. It also encourages them to have a good first semester. All sororities used to do it that way but most shortened NM education in the 90s due to hazing concerns.
