how i got my top house

by:

I came here to say the truth about rush because a lot of girls who took heavy cuts get pissy when they hear how easy it could’ve been for them.

First, I had a 2.8 GPA and got a full card back every round and ended up with my top pick. GPA really doesn’t matter as much as some people are on here claiming. As long as you make yourself look fun and hint at the things you’re ‘not supposed to talk about’ the actives will like you better for standing out from the bland conversations.

I’m from ‘the south’, but still OOR for what picky houses are looking for. Know which houses want a southern belle and exaggerate that as much as possible when you can.

Looks matter, I’m skinny, medium height, go to the tanning bed year round, with blonde hair to my waist. If this sounds the opposite of what you look like, I wish you luck and thankfully you still have time to work towards the desired appearance.

I spent my summer before rushing traveling wherever I wanted and had plenty of trips and brag worthy experiences to talk about during rush. Don’t say you stayed in your hometown working, having money gets you a long way. Fake it till you make it if you have to.

Fit the ‘look’, name drop and wear what money has gotten you and allowed you to do, make sure you sound like you are ready to have a fun time, and your choice of house is waiting for you.

No apologies for what I have said, anyone who has been through rush knows these are the qualities of a pnm receiving a full card aside from born and raised Alabama girls.

not wrong, I got my biggest drop during rush after Philanthropy when houses asked me if I had a job. they see you as not being able to afford dues or going out and having fun with the rest of them. daddy’s money gets you far during rush subtly brag where you can.

Not suggesting you lie during rush but if you had a job forget to mention it. If you can’t afford designer DHgate doesn’t hurt for the effort

What sort of designer items should we bother getting? And should we be wearing it during rush?

Also when they ask why you chose to go to Alabama, don’t mention scholarships or anything like that. It’ll be on your resume along with your grades, they’ll know you’re on one, but if you say that part of the reason you’re going here because of the scholarships, some houses will assume you don’t have the money/can’t afford to go here/afford Greek life

i was told it’s bad to talk about vacations because it makes you look conceited?

By: Pnm
by: mostly no

I would say obviously don’t throw it into conversations out of the blue/rubbing it in the actives face but coming off as someone who travels can be important because you likely have a cool trendy insta feed and is a signifying factor of being able to pay for experiences. Sororities like girls who can provide cool travel experiences to sisters they become friends with and can afford trips with other sisters traveling for the photo and sisterhood opportunities

Most of the houses DO NOT judge people on stuff this superficial. Let me break it down for you.

These top houses care the most about how much money you have, wouldn’t want you to have had a job and care about how fancy your vacations are: KD, KKG

The only top house that cares about looks obsessively: Phi Mu (to avoid confusion, Zeta is also obsessed with looks, but they’re not considered a top house)

The other top houses are not shallow like KD, KKG and PM. Don’t put them in the same group with them.

No one with a 2.8 is getting in a top house unless she has an sister already in-house.

This whole post is crap.

The girl said she got HER top house, not a top house in general. Could still go either way with a full card and doesn’t sound that unlikely with everything said tbh

This is such BS!! Don’t fall for it. Such a pathetic Post by OP. I am in an OR house, which I truly think is one of, if not the, most desirable house on campus for many PNMs, and I hope to god the OP is not in my house. I disagree with almost everything she said.

what does OR stand for?

All of the other houses are considered “New Row.”

Or you could just be yourself and end up with a bid to a house where you know the girls genuinely like you because you didn't hide major parts of your life or try to be someone you're not

By: Or...
by: .

or get dropped by every house without receiving a single chance at a bid in the first place and end up in a leftover house with no friends

There's actually no "leftover" houses here and also, your comment doesn't even make sense because there's not a single sorority at Bama that has 400+ girls and none of them are friends with each other? You can make friends in any house if you put in the effort.

i think the wording of ‘.’ was bad but I can agree with that. I went through rush with a 4.4 GPA, ‘undesirable’ major, fully involved etc but since I was OOR and mentioned I had worked and similar ‘key’ drop qualities that in all reality shouldn’t have taken away from my outgoing fun personality, 7 or 8/10 looks, I can now look back on my lists and see exactly why I was dropped from certain houses. It’s upsetting to know ‘Trust the Process’ doesn’t work when for many girls they were never given a fair chance at a bid in the same houses as everyone else. I felt like I was never given a chance to know me because certain factors having nothing to do with me as a person or my appearance automatically turned them off. I’m unhappy with the house I am in and find it extremely difficult to make friends despite having tried time and time again with different groups of girls. Sometimes the process truly does not work and that’s the sad reality of rush.

I'm sorry but I really disagree with this and don't think it will work in most cases. As an active going into my third year of recruiting I know when a girl is being herself versus when she is saying the things that she ~thinks~ I want to hear based on the stereotype of my house. I think most actives see right through the BS and will be able to tell by preference round if you would actually fit in.

That being said, I do think the OP's post has good underlying advice that rush is not the time to be humble. Obviously no one will be spending 2020 summer vacationing in Europe but if you've travelled a lot, hype it up. If you've done something unique and cool like modeling or something, hype it up. Nothing wrong with highlighting the coolest parts of yourself, but don't be fake.
