Suicide Bidding
by: qHow common is suicide bidding during recruitment? Is it a good idea to do that if you are only interested in one of your pref houses? What are some pros/cons?

i would suggest not doing it. even if you know you don’t want your second house, it doesn’t hurt to just give it a chance for a month or so to see if you really don’t want to be in the house and then you can drop. suicide bidding doesn’t affect whether your first pick will give you a bid, but it does ensure that you’re out of options if they don’t end up giving you one

It’s totally true that you should list both houses, but if you are cross cut they don’t always assign you to your #1. It depends on the needs of each house and also where you were ranked on each bid list. You can be added to your #2 as a quota addition.

Thank you for clarifying that! You are right I was wrong and misunderstood the process. But no don’t suicide you will still decrease your chances of getting the house you want and you should still give other houses a chance. With 400 girls in a sorority you can usually make it work. If you really hate it you can always try again as a sophomore

If you end up not liking your house you can always drop before initiation and get a snap bid from KD.

Ok let me explain what I mean. If you’re first choice doesn’t give you a bid, and the house you drop doesn’t give you a bid (which you can affect by what you tell them about how you’re feeling about them during pref) then your first choice has to give you a bid and they have an extra quota for doing this but they will only do this if you put both of your pref houses down when you vote. If you don’t do this you are not guaranteed a bid
