VIRTUAL FALL RECRUITMENT

by:

If you havent heard already, Tennessee, and other SEC schools just announced their sorority fall recruitment will be completely virtual from start to finish. With our recruitment being the largest in the country, it only makes sense we are soon to follow.

Ive heard from many girls that apparently nationals are apparently not too fond of the idea of in person recruitment until a preference round. Likely will be virtual until then, expect to see a lot of girls drop out of rush.

That’s funny Tennessee’s Panhellenic page says nothing about it becoming virtual just that they are adjusting their dates? Can you elaborate? Also what other SEC schools ?

By: Wouldlovetiknow
by: Yeah

Tennessee panhellic just sent out a detailed message to all chapters. My friend sent to me, said virtual recruitment from start to finish. No official response yet but there will be one soon released

Sorry but who really wants to do virtual rush? Are new members going to have to pay dues just to attend virtual chapter meetings and bs online swaps? I feel like I’d just wait for the actual experience

While I do think greek life will continue here at UA this fall, I think its safe to say its going to look a lot different. I just highly doubt the school is going to let any fraternities register any events with more than 250 people, which means events cant really happen. No bid day, no tailgates most likely, virtual recruitment, etc. These are some tough, and scary times for everyone. But, it is important to keep in sight of what is important. We are living in a pandemic and unfortunately, greek life, is not a priority for the administration currently.

Honestly if I were a freshman at this point I’d be considering taking a gap year.

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Why take an extra year to graduate and lose all your motivation to go to school? Big baby.

by: Stop judging

Because, especially if school ends up online, it’s not worth all the money to attend from out of state. Your grades probably won’t be as good in online classes (I know I don’t learn very well that way personally) which would hurt your gpa and on top of that you’d be missing out on college experiences that you’ll only get once. If rush goes online, there’s a chance that school will too since some classes have hundreds of kids in them, so I’m considering a gap year too if that happens. There’s nothing wrong with that

Because you only get four years at college and plenty of people are not interested in doing one of them online?? Gap years are totally normal in plenty of countries around the world. Not sure why this comment drew such judgement

Classes are easier online unless you’re lazy. Education actually gets you somewhere, unlike sorority life.

Like what? Sorority life is great and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but how does it get you anywhere?

Online classes being easier is cool and all except that means you’re probably not learning anything. I totally understand why people want the on campus experience.

Everyone that downvoted my comment about struggling with online class, you’re ignorant. I promise you engineering classes are not easier online having to teach yourself. Try teaching yourself calc, differential equations, thermodynamics, etc. while not being able to get the help you need, and then tell me online classes are easier🙄

Most people in my house have had internships for very different companies. Rarely, if ever, does someone get a job based on their sorority’s “connections.” It’s not that simple. You sound like Brad, Chad, and Thad from Theta Chi. “Brooooo we have so many connections, so we don’t even have to study.”

No one’s saying connections do ALL the work but they absolutely can and do help. The only thing you need to get your resume to the right people in the hiring process is a good connection and that can absolutely be a recent alum, a chapter advisor, or (the big one) a parent of a sister. Some people think it’s unfair or lazy or whatever but 🤷🏻‍♀️

This really is not a greek life specific conversation. I had a non sorority friend get in at an MBB bc her neighbor was in leadership there. Was she qualified? Of course, but they ensured her app went to the right people. Seems like you have a chip on your shoulder about greek life connections specifically which, idk what to tell you except connections can be formed anywhere including sororities and if you have them you may as well use them.

I have connections through Greek Life and through other organizations/people as well. You have a lot of growing up to do if your response to reality hitting you is that “you’re just jealous.”

Bid Day could totally still be done . Have each PC report at a certain time . Have them open their bids together and then run to house . No parents.

By: Bid Day
by: No way

And then do what? Have 300 girls all gather at the house together? No. It wont happen. The school is going to be releasing GUIDELINES that will state a ban on mass gatherings. It just hasnt be talked about yet.

By: No way
Report
by: Bid Day

No how about just the temp bigs and the PNM’s. Honesty if the state is the final phase by then gatherings of over 250 are allowed so why would it even matter?

Jesus think with your head. The school will not be responsible for allowing something like that happen. They just wont, as much as it breaks my heart Greek life functions are NOT essential and to keep the safety of our students a priority, they will do so as necessary

by: Bid dat

If they go totally virtual and take away an in person bid day this will finically hurt the university and the chapters! Many girls will drop , take a gap year and/or maybe even skip Bama all together to attend an instate school.

Unfortunately they do not have a choice. Health concerns are a top priority. If there was an outbreak on our campus this fall, they could get sued over it big time. They cant take any chances.
