Some mom just posted on a parent page that recruitment is being canceled/ pushed back? She also said the no contact period is now over! Is there any facts to this?

Lord I hope not. Though Cali just moved a bunch of schools online until 2021 and I seriously dread that other states and schools may follow.

My sorority told us that no contact is being lifted soon but I haven’t heard about rush being cancelled or pushed back

Did they give a reason? Usually it stays through rush, I feel like that’s a bad sign

We were also told about the the no contact period being stopped on Monday and I am assuming that would mean rush is being pushed back... theres no other reason why they’d do that if it was still on schedule. But i believe they are having an official conversation on Sunday.

Probably an unpopular opinion, but does anyone else think it might be kind of interesting to do spring recruitment? Everyone has a college GPA, so they’re all on equal footing. Houses have a whole semester to see who makes a fool out of themselves on gameday. It would be like 55 degrees. And most freshmen who transfer do it after first semester which is a big problem for a lot of the more OOS houses.

I know it’s unlikely but I feel like there are a lot of benefits.

I don’t know if the financial argument really holds water, plenty of schools with big Greek systems do spring rush and are fine. I mean if you think about it the biggest expense by far is meals and that’s a pretty fluid cost based on how many members there are.

Most schools don’t only have spring rush, they rush in the fall AND in the spring. Also, sororities at Alabama (and a lot of southern schools) are a lot bigger and way more expensive than other ones. Not having new members paying during fall semester would definitely hurt, and they would need to raise the already extremely high dues of all the actives in the houses for that semester to make up for it, which wouldn’t be fun for anyone.

I can’t think of a single school that does both spring and fall formal recruitment. If you do spring recruitment you do fall COB, just like we do spring COB. Indiana, SMU, Maryland, both Miami’s, Baylor, Virginia, Vanderbilt all do just fine in the spring. Most costs are totally relative to # of members.

The extended contact period comes from a task force report recommendation from National Panhellenic Conference. It is being done as a way to keep PNM's interested and informed about different chapters. This directive was given to all Panhellenic chapters (not just UA). The task force's objective was to have plans in place IF recruitment has to be changed (at any university).

All PNMs should follow and research as many sororities on social media as they can in order to get to know each chapter better as they all are different and have something to offer each PNM. As of Monday, 5/18, actives will be able to comment and talk to PNMs.

Hope this helps to explain what's going on.
