How important are rec letters for rush?

Alright so I had a 4.4 hs GPA and a 33 ACT. I'm tall, thin, blonde, and super friendly. My resume is also very impressive in terms of volunteer work and involvement. That said, I literally don't know a single person who could write me a rec letter. None of my mom's friends or friends' moms were in sororities. Is that a deal breaker or will I be fine? Roll tide :)

Post a Facebook status with the names of all the chapters at Alabama and explain that you need rec letters, then say if you know anyone I could be put in contact with to message you. I did this and got a few that I wouldn't have

you’re gonna need rec letters if you want to get a top house (ZTA, phi mu, pi phi, kkg) just because you’re pretty and have a good GPA doesn’t mean you’ll connect with girls if your personality doesn’t match theirs

Good try with the “top house” reference. PNMs need recs for every single house, especially the old row houses, which are AXO, AGD, XO, DDD, KD, KKG and PM.

I only had letters for 3 houses and had almost a full card every round and not nearly close to the gpa and test scores you had. I got into a top house and my favorite one during all of rush without a letter for them. Letters help a lot bc it lets the chapters know you’re coming in and an alum believes you’ll be an asset to the chapter but if you can not acquire one it’s not the end of the world.
