Rush Guide 2020
by: facts
I’m gonna cover most of what I can and say some of the things other people aren’t.
NUMBER ONE RUSH TIP OMG: Girls, if your grades are not good, I am so sorry but you are more than likely going to be dropped. If you are below a 3.0 GPA coming in, you are labeled a grade risk and most chapters can only take 2 or 3 grade risk girls per pledge class, so the odds of you making it through recruitment or at least to a top house are not as good. I was devastated when I got dropped by so many houses after the first round, but now being on the other side, I know it was because of my grades.
#2 GIRL YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA
You have to be SOOO careful what you are posting ESPECIALLY if you have sorority girls following you!!! There should be NO ALCOHOL. Also, not just Instagram, sororities WILL be looking at not just your VSCO, but your TikTok as well, so if you have anything questionable, maybe just archive it until recruitment is over if it is something you want to keep. But seriously I don’t care if you have an in house sister in blah blah house, posting pics of you drinking even on your VSCO are going to put a bad taste in the sororities mouth, and sometimes your big sister can’t do anything about that.
#3 BE HONEST OMG
Obviously you should come into rush with an open mind, but unfortunately it isn’t always like that, so if you are one of those girls who does know for sure that they are getting a bid from a house like you know for sure in the bottom of your soul, TELL THE OTHER HOUSES THAT! There could be other girls wanting houses that might be keeping you otherwise and it would be unfair to take up another girl’s spot.
I feel like I’ve touched what I really didn’t know and what is not addressed as much, but comment below if you have any other questions and I will answer you honestly no BS.

Agree for the most part. Would like to second your point about the VSCOs. I once stalked a “top” pnms VSCO and saw that she posted a few photos of sorority houses on campus on there from when she visited (kd, phi mu, maybe another one I can’t remember). I’m not in one of those houses, so I showed my rush chair. She immediately went off our radar, as we assumed she wasn’t interested in us since she only posted those houses. Other houses probably assumed the same, as she ended up in a bottom house. Would also add that it’s important to check your tagged insta pics too. Just because it’s someone else’s pic, they’re holding alcohol and you’re not, etc...it’ll still come back to bite you. Archive everything questionable until after rush is over.

Adding this bc it was specific to me personally: do what you can to get into shape NOW. It will make a big difference during rush. Unfortunately you can be a great PNM but if you are not in shape and you also don’t have good connections you most likely will not have many options. I’m not saying it’s right but it’s true.

That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard if it’s true that you can get dropped by some houses if you put others on your VSCO. Time for someone to lose their ego.
